The Disingenuity of Time Rifts

The time rifts are broken, reductive and utterly useless.
Blizz teased us by implying that Dragonflight would become more alt friendly, but it has gone in the complete opposite direction with time rifts.
By my perception, (and from the look of the outrage in the forums and in-game chats, in the perception of a lot of other players as well) making the When Time Needs Mending quest weekly an account wide only quest, Blizz has only doubled down on making DF as unfriendly to alts as possible. To top it off, they made the currency reward for the quest’s completion to be character bound only, so using the quest multiple times to catch your alts up in gear is literally impossible.
Why give the impression that we’re going to be able to catch our alts up on gear and then rip that idea away so unceremoniously? Why risk offending your player base by giving false impressions and, in some cases, making intentionally deceptive statements to one affect, making us think you’re going to do one thing, but then reversing that and giving us what you think we want from it?

This decision reminds me of a certain popular phone making tech company that asks for user feedback on features, then completely ignores that feedback in favor of features they want you to use but never asked for.

you can run it every hr for a chance to get gear

I’m talking about the quest being account wide and the gear currency being single character soulbound as a result. Either make the currency account bound or make the quest available on all characters, doing both only makes things worse.

How? It’s a token for BoA currency. That’s why it’s once per account.

I’m looking at a gear vendor that has the same ilevel gear as Fyrakk Assaults. You can get a token a week for a piece of gear from that vendor and a couple pieces a week from Fyrakk. You can continually run it to try for more gear using the Destiny buff.

How is that not catch up?

All I’ve ever gotten on any alts in time rifts was flakes, never gotten the gear purchasing currency after the quest was finished on any of my alts. I can use the flakes to buy the trinkets and mogs from the other vendors, but I can’t buy any equippable gear from the 402 armor vendor because I’ve never gotten a pickup on my alts for the currency to buy it.

Have you used the Encapsulated Destiny? You’re getting something every boss fight that way. And it can be gear or cosmetics. I got two pieces of gear yesterday running it five times.

You’re guaranteed one piece a week from currency, can farm the bosses as much as you want for more chances and again, it’s the same as Fyrakk Assaults, which gets you two more pieces.

Apparently you haven’t been running afoul of the bugs that are a part of these time rifts and their associated quest. Encapsulated destiny has only dropped once for me in the multiple times I’ve run the time rift event. It has only dropped once for me on the one character I completed “Mending” quest for.

Adding to that I’m not after 379 gear that drops from fyrakk assault crap. They’re already obsolete beyond compare and it’s only one patch later. Blizz has brought us some very much unwanted power creep between time rifts and fyrakk assaults. The issue isn’t just the bugs or the deliberate limitations placed on the event, it’s the power creep and general overarching rapid obsolescence of equipment; not even halfway through the expansion.

Yes I want more powerful gear, but I’m sorry, if I have to play this kind of catch up on my alts, I don’t want to play catch up like this.

The currency is BOA. If it wasn’t limited to once per account the weekly would either give significantly less currency, or you would need significantly more currency to buy anything.

There’s a BoA crate of flakes you can buy for 500 flakes that gives 500 flakes to whoever opens it.

So, uh…currency is not completely character locked. And time-rift gear is able to be catalyzed into Season 2 tier sets, so very alt friendly.

Fyrakk drops Veteran gear with a chance at Champion level gear. Researchers has a better than decent chance at giving you Champion level rings/necks.

And suffusion camp gear can be catalyzed into Tier. So, not sure what you’re complaining about. Suffusion/Fyrak + Researcher + Time Rift is a very viable way to do alt gear catchup into Vet 8/8 424 gear with a chance at Champion level stuff.

I did the quest on 4 different characters yesterday. I’m not sure what the grievance is honestly about…?

Dude, I have only ever gotten explorer/adventurer grade gear from Fyrakk and suffusion camps, the dilated time capsule is a soulbound item and cannot be transferred to other toons on my account and not even the flakes are shared for me. If this is not what was intended then someone at blizz needs to get off of their patootie and do something about it.

I can’t get a straight answer on this anywhere, do you have to be 70 to do the time rifts? They’re not appearing as a world quest on my minimap as a level 62, no timer, nothing, can’t “start the event” either

And I would say that you are full of it or you’re running more than one WoW account.
Which is against ToS by the way.

I’ve run into many bugs.

You get one a week. Unless you die, it shouldn’t be disappearing.

The chest gives you the same 402 ilevel that the vendor for Time Rifts does. The Fyrakk boss drops the same, as well.

They aren’t.

Flakes only buy trinkets and cosmetics. Nothing else.

Open the chest with three keys. Kill the boss.

It isn’t.

I -think- you have to complete one on a max level toon first and then it opens them up for lower level alts. I was able to do one on my lvl 60 Rogue the other day and even got a token for the gear for when he hits max.

I’ll call the WAHmbulance…

it is absolutely not against tos to have more than one wow account

OPs guild name really checks out.

Your character has two maxed-out veteran-level Suffused armor pieces on right now.

The rifts have been great for my alts so far. I’ve gone from alts with no tier to being 5/9 and 6/9 tier. If I had more catalyst charges, I’d be even further along than that. Attempting to do this on Suffusion Camps alone would take much longer.

And the rifts have veteran-level trinkets for all classes, which have been hard for me to come by up to this point.

I ran rifts on my main and two alts last night (in separate runs, of course). The main did the weekly, and all three characters got the equipment token on their runs, plus a pet and couple of the cosmetic pieces, and an average amount of the flakes on each character.
