nah, Controller in WoW is built to be used with Action Targeting. I can’t imagine using one or the other, but not both.
but that does also make quickly targting a specific mob kind of an issue.

I use a combination of both, and that’s why I swap to keyboard in keys. It’s just too much of a hassle trying to get a kick in with twenty mobs stacked on top, but in situations like raiding it’s all fine.
And also because consoles are for children. ![]()
No, not without something that can handle all the useful abilities that the classes have at their disposal.
Who would ever play a Massively Multiplayer Online game on a console, especially if you use addons?
I play wow everyday with zero addons.
To play the game at entry-level, addons aren’t a necessity. Sure. In order to do ANY endgame content, even lfr, even little timmy knows to install either DBM or WA or both. Playing this game’s endgame content without addons is like a blind person going to a shooting range. It’s that bad. Blame blizz, I do for letting it get to that point. And I know the thread is about ui, so you said it yourself. You’ve been using an addon for over a decade to replace blizz’s craptastic ui. You’re not exactly one to say wow doesnt need an addon in order to play.
I think its likely that Blizzard would have to do what Bathesda did when it went with a console ESO - effectively create a separate game. Console and PC players of ESO do not play the same game; they don’t interact at all.
I remember there was a problem before the console version was released because players were complaining they would have to pay 2 fees, one to the game and one to Sony for access to the console version. I can’t recall how it was worked but it was shortly before the game went with a free version, so it may have been that. (And bear in mind, Microsoft now own Bethesda, so they would have access to ESO and all the financials regarding it.)
Previously I couldn’t see anyway that Blizzard would consider creating a second version of WoW, but now that they are owned by Microsoft (who have a shipload of money) it might be considered as a viable project for playing on Xbox.
PS: as a sidenote, I believe that add ons cant be used on ESO console.
This definitely the way they would go.
I would argue that the Console Port of ESO is one of the things that saved it, because it was dying on PC when the Console versions came out. That’s a hill I would die on.
WoW does not have that particular problem though.
the second thing that saved it was Tamriel Unlimited.
I don’t remember this. It’s been a general Sony policy ever since FFXIV came out on PS3 that MMOs and F2P games don’t have to also pay Playstation for online access.
In fact, this has been the sticking point with Xbox that has causes FFXIV so long to come out on Xbox. Xbox wanted to make players pay for Xbox Live AND the FFXIV subscription. and SE is like “Sony doesn’t make us do that, so no.” Thankfully Xbox finally caved.
Yes Tamriel Unlimited was an explosive change to the game.
If I were Blizzard+Microsoft and was considering a game pass type addition to XBox, I’d do something like start with Classic. It’s a simpler game, less extras and could easily survive without add ons. If that worked well financially, they’d doubtless look at it further.
I remember it pretty clearly. I started playing from Day 1 of beta (having loved Skyrim) and from the day its subscription live version started. I could probably do some research but there was a lot of excited posts on the forum and lots of people saying they would stop playing. I believe that ESO console came out in 2015.
Pretty sure they can do it…
but the question is “will they” …
with terrible leadership, it makes things harder. ![]()
actually Xbox gave in a while ago, think it was back in Stormblood actually that they agreed to play nice with Square.
Imagine using the AH on console without TSM and trying to get any sales. lol
People do it, not sure how. I tried it and it’s awkward. XIV does it extremely well.
If addons are the issue, it would require a Legion-scale revamp to where addons are either not needed, or any that people “think” they need are incorporated. Or… WoW 2.
I mean…why would they want to?
WoW is hardly a flagship title for any new generation console.
Just doesn’t have enough appeal.
I never used them either. Not really to prove it’s possible, just never needed them. I play just fine. When someone gets so reliant on them, that’s when they think “man, how does someone do that?!”
Similar to playing a game from scratch on the hardest difficulty without a new game plus.
What kind of games are available on the Microsoft battlepass? Diablo IV…I believe is one example.
Is that a subjective opinion? If its a factual statement, I’d need support for it.
I mean you’re not going to get Blizzard to come out say that the game popularity is dipping but the absence of faction conflict and cross faction instance groups suggests that interest in WoW is plummeting so badly that it can’t sustain two factions.
So it’s an opinion.
I’m not saying its sub numbers are the highest ever but we have no idea of its overall popularity, especially with multiple versions of the game live. They are certainly working hard to get people back; Chris Metzen practically begged people to return at Blizzcon.
It has the potential to be an earner on the Xbox since it would be available to people who don’t play games on a PC.
Just deal with it like ffxiv console players do. No way they’re running ACT or DelvUI.
Not that I do either. ![]()
