The differences between Troll tribes

In a story I’m helping on, the troll tribes’ differences have to be described in the most simplest of ways.

Not all of them are simply a different skin colour, could anyone help me out?

Amani-Forest trolls who are super buff.

Zandalari-Arrogant trolls who are super tall

Gurubashi-Jungle trolls who summoned a blood god

Sandfury-Desert trolls who like hydras.

And now the ice trolls
Drakkari-Ice trolls who live up north and get killed by the Scourge
Frostmane-Ice trolls that live in Dun Morogh and get killed by dwaves
Winterax-Ice trolls that used to live in Alterac until they were killed by orcs and dwarves

There’s quite a bit go go off of in the WoW wikis, there’s technically almost two dozen tribes. It’s not just a physical difference between them, they often worship different Loa.

The Trolls are one of the oldest native Azeroth races that aren’t titan-forged, they’re certainly the most successful of those races. They had a massive continent to populate before the sundering, and where quite diverse even back then.

Most tribes have their own loa they revere alongside the other loa who all tribes revere.

The Amani are forest trolls. Their green color comes from moss that grows on their fur. Amani have a long history of fighting the high/blood elves and have a very deep hatred for elves.

The Sandfury are desert trolls and seem to not abhor undeath as much as most other trolls as they have a witch doctor among them who actively raises the dead. They seem to me to be kind of a renegade group as far as troll customs go.

The Drakkari are ice trolls from Northrend. They tend to be hardier and more muscular than other troll groups. Some Drakkari sided with the Lich King for the promise of power. Others killed their loa (or attempted to) in a desperate attempt to gain their power to use defending against the Scourge.

The Gurubashi are jungle trolls who more or less turned their back on all other trolls and the loa in order to summon Hakkar, a blood god. Any of them who are still alive would likely be seen as traitors and kill on sight to most trolls, especially the Zandalari as they were the ones recruiting the horde and alliance to go into ZG and destroy the Gurubashi and Hakkar.

The Zandalari are like the royalty of all trolls. They’re the richest and most powerful of all trolls and live in a city of gold filled with loa. They’re the most beautiful of all trolls are often described as being the most elf-like of all trolls.

Google “warcraft troll tribes” and an article on WoWpedia or WoWiki will pop up with in-depth descriptions of them all.

Thanks everyone!

I don’t think the Gurubashi are considered traitors to trollkind. They’ve worked with the other Trolls and have their own embassy on Zandalar in BfA.

You’re right! I forgot about Tal’gurub and the Jambani overthrow there.

It goes far beyond that. Hakkar was initially worshiped by the Gurubashi until civil unrest wracked the empire and the Zandalari realized what absolutely moronic stuff they were doing. They killed off any supporters of Hakkar and those who escaped formed a temple in the Swamp of Sorrows, which Ysera sunk under the swamps. Still some survived and were able to infiltrate and defeat the defenders of Zul’gurub, and their Loa Champions gaining control over them. It is why they were bosses in OG ZG.

In the Cata revamp they less worshiped Hakkar and actually were able to contain the dangerous Loa, hoping to sap and use hos power on behalf of Zul’s resurgent troll empire.

Really in short: The Gurubashi were never really traitors to troll kind. Rather dabbled in magics/loa they had little understanding of in addition to splinter cultists worshiping Hakkar no different than what a Twilight Cultist would the Old Gods.

Skin*
actually explicitly not fur.
Jungle and probably Drakkari trolls are the ones with fur.
