@ the Devs, PvP gear vs Raid gear?

I just was curious if the devs are going to try to balance them? I seen some gear datamined for the new pvp event and also the new raid. I can’t help but feel the pvp gear is very underwhelming, I know it’s not all official yet but we are pretty close to the launch date, so I’m a bit scared. haha. One thing I will say though that I like the fact that the devs are on it and add new recipes and things as time goes on and they can see what needs working on, so I’m not that scared yet .
I always enjoyed this game for the different options of getting gear, instead of being restricted to one source.
What are everyone else’s thoughts on the pvp event gear? ( is mostly what I’m referring to.) vs the raid gear?
Regardless, I’m looking forward to it and I think the devs have been pretty good with the first phase and trying to satisfy everyone, which is never easy to do.
Thanks everyone, take care.

Edit, sorry I guess I was looking at mostly priest and hunter gear.

Looks at the massively BiS Ret sword from STV, among other things

Where’s the underwhelming? I’m actually slightly irked I’m hard forced to do the event, as I’m not overly fond of stv antics, or wpvp in general.

Also, alliance better get a flight path added Blizzard.

I’m of the opinion that PvP gear should be best for PvP and PvE gear should be best for PvP, and that the two should be mid at best for the other purpose.

My other opinion on PvP gear is that everyone’s gear should be normalized, since, you know, PvP is entirely skill based and it doesn’t matter what gear you’re wearing when you’re stomping pugs. Make the rewards cosmetic since we all just PvP for the joy of hangin’ with the boys.

You already have one.

This is what irks me the most of SoD. Devs are going above and beyond to make the paladin so enjoyable (and borderline OP) and leaving classes like the Shaman as an afterthought.

I’m giving P2 a chance but I’m running out of straws.

The cloth raid dps set has negative stamina, the leather spellpower gear lacks +healing on a lot of it, all the healing focused gear is cloth. Physical dps looks like they’ll get good options from raid. Here’s hoping casters and healers get some pvp alternatives so we’re not all just fighting over the lock tank set.

Pretty sure all the sets are not actually dropped, but instead some sort of token drop that you can exchange for the piece you want.

So everybody is going to be fighting over the tokens, but you get exactly what you want when you do get a token

Yes, although the two should be a bit more that mid.

Please no, though I would love the added cosmetic rewards.

That 2h log with stun proc looks pretty sweet to me shrug

Spoken like someone who loves roflstomping newbs.

Personally, particularly with Classic, I don’t think it matters much. I think it’s absolutely fine for an RPG game to have gear come from any part of playing the game.

Like, let’s say I’m a pro snowboarder and my best in slot helmet is a cycling helmet. I’m not going to throw a fit, and post all over the internet that I had to go to a bike store to get a helmet, nor that I can’t properly compete against other snowboarders in events, because of where they are getting their gear, etc.

In future iterations of WoW, especially Retail where it’s much more like a lobby-based ARPG and people seem to legitimately feel that there’s a separation of instanced PVP and instanced PVE activities such that they should have different gear, specs, and even be the sole focus of one’s gameplay, then maybe there’s a point to be made. Though, I don’t think any of the top-level players are making that point!

yes, the flight path should be added I agree and yes some of gear is good , ty for adding your thoughts. I’m the oppositive though, I love Wpvp and not so much raiding.

Is the token idea actually confirmed or mined or is that just speculation?

Yes. It’s mentioned in the P2 SoD Video.

From 4:55 - “We also have tokens now that will drop, instead of having a gigantic loot list that contains all of the set pieces, and you’re getting frustrated if the same set piece drops for a different class, every week. We’ve introduced set piece tokens that can be used by everyone for a specific piece of your armor. So, you can pick whoever loots the boot token will be able to turn that in to a vendor to be able to redeem it for set piece boots.

Thank you, this is pretty much my concern too… I agree. When I say balance I mean balance because we all know how raid gear can over power a pvper, they both take skill , do they not? Why not balance them so you have options…that is my argument… so people aren’t fighting over it. later on, … The no stam thing is an odd take on balance…

Haha nah, stomping is boring. Okay maybe killing a fresh toon the first time is funny but after that it’s boring. I like gear because it adds a challenge to the game. I have never had the best gear, I don’t raid and in TBC (I didn’t play much of classic sadly) I only had the honour gear because I only did solo BG’s and no arena, so I was versing fully arena geared players who were two phases of gear ahead of me (that’s how TBC worked PvP worked). I enjoyed that because it felt good when I out-skilled a better-geared player.

Challenges make the game fun. Don’t normalise the gear, just make the gear accessible to everyone, causals and sweats alike (unlike they did in TBC).

You can achieve the same effect by taking gear off.

I’m very excited to earn my bis weapon from pvp in Phase 2 rather than raiding. Esp since I never did get Strike in Phase 1 lol.

Tweaking stamina makes sense for sod since there is no resilience stat, and the stat preference is different in pvp and pve.

Well no, because I like gear and gear progression. Why wouldn’t I wear gear if I like gear?
