I believe is failing the players right now. From the people I have spoken too, we find mostly menial damage with large spikes to be uninspiring.
For instance, my shadowpriest’s dots tick for basically nothing, EXCEPT my spender dot.
My friend’s boomkin only does meaningful damage inside of huge cool downs like incarnation and convoke.
My DK only does meaningful damage when you blow all of the CD’s.
Mage in combustion and RoP.
I think people enjoy a play style where there are strong cooldowns, but less severe lows. Keep the peaks this high, but bring up the valleys a bit because it is uninspiring “obliterating” for 2k.

I agree with the majority of what you’re saying, yet I disagree with your conclusion, respectfully ofc.
The issue is not that some classes have huge burst windows, or one damaging ability. The issue is that all classes have that or a barely distinguished combination of the two. The reason why the few specs who don’t fit that mold are unfavored for the most part is because they’re either undertuned or the current raid tier/pvp/mythic meta favors the burst window style damage profile.
I wish damage dealing specs had a distinct play style, burst windows being one of the options, not just different variations of builder spender plus CD burst windows and that’s it.

Yeah I suck outside of bezerk or convoke.
Actually, yes that’s a better conclusion to what I was wanting to communicate. It’s not that some specs are like this, it’s that I think almost ALL of them are like this. Maybe survival hunters and 1 other are not.
It lets us go to the bathroom after we do our burst and get our dots out!

Hahahahaha got a legitimate laugh out of that
Play Outlaw.
No worthwhile cool-downs, all the plate spinning you need, and plenty of stupid dice to throw.
There’s no burst, just a steady stream of Sinister Strikes and Dispatches to put you on the edge of your sleep.

Sorry yes, it’s not that I don’t like spike damage profiles, it’s that they’re almost all 0 to 100 profiles. Which is a bit of an exaggeration I know, but I don’t think it has ever been like it is now.
Ele sham is very consistent dmg, with spikes from fire ele and imo is one of the best feeling specs to play performance/meta desirability not considered.
Fire mage is the example of the burst window spec that I think is great whether it’s something you love or hate is different but it makes sense thematically with fire and while it isn’t unique in gameplay style it is unique that the style of gameplay fits the spec very well.
