The Defense of Grom'gol

Ogre quest, there’s literally not enough ogres to complete the quest and you have to wait forever for them to respawn, how awful lol.

Welcome to the jungle.

First quest I encountered where there simply wasn’t enough spawns to even get the quest done , even if you’re the only guy there.

Very common in Classic.

I knowb it sucks. I don’t play classic. I just peruse the classic forums to reminisce about the olden days. The more I read about classic the less I want to play it.

On the Alliance, there’s a quest in Deadmines that has you collect these cards from some undead miners. It’s an elite area before the dungeon portal itself, and it requires a full group to clear at level. There aren’t enough mobs for a whole group to get their cards, so most end up having to wait at the entrance, just in time for a second group to show up trying to do the same quest, and then again when a third shows up.

Yeah. There are a lot of areas just like that…

Oh god that quest…

The respawn times…

The running up and down the small corridor to try and tag first when there’s three other full groups there…

There are a handful of quests actually worth doing, than there are all the others. Most of the time your just better off grinding rather then waiting for specific spawns or trying to do a escort quest that takes forever for a measly 1k exp. You could probably grind that 1k exp faster on the mobs around the escort quest than it would take to actually finish it.

I love that grinding is considered one of the fastest ways to level if you just throw in those handful of quests worth doing per zone.

Welcome to classic warcraft. They knew how to waste your time back then. Protip: don’t do every quest.

YOu only just noticed this after hitting 30+? It’s the same in many places, usually because spawn points can spawn different type of mobs … not sure if that’s the case with these Ogres in particular but it’s a widespread mechanic used in vanilla to extend the time needed to complete the meagre number of quests that existed back then.

Yeah too be honest ive had a pretty good time leveling until this quest, there was simply no ogres and it said I need to kill 5 witch doctor and 10 brutes and theres like 5 witch doctors and 5 brutes, and if there is anyone else there un-willing to party up youre doomed. These seem to spawn slower than other things too

It’s not terrible to kill whats available, go do another quests and come back… I always did that in Vanilla, Especially in that zone with the various kill baby cats, now go kill bigger cats. I hated Nesingwary by the end of that whole mess

It just doesn’t make sense to me because isn’t the quest “complete” if I killed all the ogres? I defended grom’gol, seems like bad gameplay to have to wait for something to respawn lol

Welcome to classic, where most people quit due to one of the following reasons:

  1. tired of ultra slow respawns for quest mobs
  2. tired of piss poor drop rates from quest mobs
  3. tired of getting dazed

in classic mobs in an area are on shared spawns

so if you only need 5 more of one kind of mob but they aren’t spawning, you need to kill the other kinds to make them spawn
