The Curse of Grim Batol

Just wanted to share this little anecdote. On the way to the third boss, there are some messy pulls inexperienced groups may find difficult do deal with depending in key level and gear. This, my dear forum, is the epicenter the very core of the Grim Batol Curse.

Every single pug I clawed my way into using the LFG tool gets to this point with minimal to passable mistakes and then it begins: someone makes a comment on the tank performance. Maybe they are pulling too small or too big, or not keeping themselves alive properly.

The group stops. The tank is now offended and is currently typing aggressively in chat. You look towards the ticking timer in a cold sweat. Maybe we can still make it? Those last deaths sure are taking their toll now.

The argument stops when someone yells at both parts that they are wasting time. The group gets moving again. At this point there is a 60% chance someone just ragequits. Otherwise, you finish but the key is depleted. The group keeps blaming the tank. You leave, disappointed with some gold in your pockets.

I have yet to time a GB and it is always those packs once you turn a corner after second boss that start the tank abuse discourse that bricks the run.

Honestly dungeon tuning as a whole has been a mess this season, and peril has only been fanning the flames too. I have timed several grims personally, but the timer is definitely a bit tight in the end given how big the dungeon itself it.

I think knockbacks either need to be removed from the game in PVE or redesigned. Any ability that is a knockback in a dungeon where you die from that, needs to have a major telegraph.

It’s 2024, almost 2025 and they still do not telegraph major one shot abilities, it’s mind boggling.

We’re in 2025 and people still don’t prepare for the knockback abilities. Face your back to a wall, you had to do this in Priory so I’m not sure how people aren’t getting it.

Those ascendants man… AoE pulses and tank busters on a fortified add. And there are two before the third boss. I swear they’re harder than the boss because everybody is saving their CDs cuz the boss is the next pull 5 seconds later.

Was definitely a right step in removing it from the final boss of SoO I’ll say. Getting your control stripped from you every now and then is something I’ve never found fun and don’t understand why Blizzard think it is.

If I wanted that nonsense I’d PvP instead.

Thing is is that people don’t know how to mind their ow business in m+, especially when you pug.

your risk key getting busted if people start fighting.

Whether it’s:

The tank pulling carefully and to not cause a wipe.

The healer having garbage heals.

dps not pulling their weight or pulling extra mobs to speed up the dungion (i’ve actually had DPS pull for me multiple times after i asked not to and kept causing wipes)

You’re 100% free to say what you need to say, but keep in mind, you risk killing the key.

so, the red ogres have an enrage that absolutely demolishes tanks.
Soothes help a lot in that section.

these dudes not getting soothed is the only time I’ve ever had trouble tanking that section.

If only 20% of people are very bad at giving or taking criticism, in a random group of 5 people you’re likely to get at least one.

This seems to naturally get weeded out the higher you go, kind of like being able to take and give criticism in a positive way is a critical skill for improvement.

Dem lil fat boys get Kidney Shotted for 8 seconds straight when they enrage. The other one alpha strike and kill it, not to mention they are silenced by Garrote on pull.

Ret/Rogue/Boomkin controls Grim Batol. Aim for that comp.

You can give criticism in a positive way, but people can still perceive it as jerkish.

I onced tanked a Mists +5 and a ret pally tried to give the H pally some friendly healer tips as he played H pally OS. Healer got mad and left because they didn’t like being told how to played their class.

I specifically pick a Devilsaur Tranquilizer for those, but usually i get overwhelmed all the same

this is how i have HAD to approach this dungeon because aggressive pulling 99% results in a wipe in pugs.

Then someone gets upset that I’m pulling to slow, and tells me to hurry. So I oblige. And I’m proven to be correct in my first assumption, then someone quits.

How are we supposed to learn these when the difficulty is so high immediately?

The M+ squish is garbage.

They need to revert it so people can actually learn this stuff without being 1 shot by everything.
