The Creation of Dead Servers

I waited in queue for Stalagg for nearly four hours last night, roughly another “Five hours” to go, in order to get in.

Blizzard, what happened? The fact that there were so few servers available during the name creation phase, you have just created dead servers for yourself. If you had opened the servers (not all that you have now) during name creation, you would have a more evenly distribution of players on servers, without such a discrepancy of population.

The fact that there were so many people forced into a handful of servers, then upon Classic launch, adding 10+ to alleviate the mass amount of people trying to access the few servers that were created during the name creation phase, has turned into a nightmare. I’m not saying all of these servers will turn into ghost towns, but Blizzard themselves are expecting a sharp decline in Classic participation, now that many have moved servers just to be able to experience Classic, what do we do now?

Will a free character transfer become available, will servers somehow merge? What is Blizzard going to do, to prevent the decline in server population, and to keep the communities fresh and active.

The sky isn’t falling. Rescinding my previous post as I made that on little to no sleep.

I agree with you, 100%!

I get that people are at work, or this that, and the other thing. But I’m more concerned with the longevity of the server health and community.
If there is a chance that since they are expecting a sharp decline in population of the game overall, specific servers will absolutely take a hit and it will show.

I think at this point, getting an accurate representation of the server population is the main priority, then from there we can discuss a free transfer, because if it’s a month, then you have to reroll from being on a dead server, that will hurt.

Just wait a week , the game will filter its self out . A good portion of people who came to see what classic is all about will leave and then you’ll see what servers are doing what, then create a character on that server . It’s not the end of the world …Of warcraft

Very true!
Once that happens, the core of the players will be on the populous, healthy servers and it would be worth the move!

I agree, but the smart players are waiting for the rush to fade. My original plan was to hang out a couple of weeks post launch and see whats happening. Unfortunately i spent my last few days in retail accidentally hyping myself up with a tour of the old raids. So here i am, day 1, logging in on an alt and just enjoying the whole event. Ah well. Maybe in a few weeks i can start leveling my shammy on arugal.

Tons of people waited until launch to even resub. They were not given accurate data. Classic beta should have not required a active sub to play.

Was trying to get on Whitemane for 64 minutes I just closed the game. I’m more interested in waiting until I see H vs A ratio before I choose a server

Reluctantly, I agree with the assessment that the issue is a result of assumptions and requiring a sub for the stress tests and beta.

I don’t think Blizzard knew what they were getting into.

Bright side is my wife and I partied like it was 2004 last night for 5 hours. So planning on leveling our cows more tonight.

Ya even one stress test not requiring a active account should have happened. Even now you wont see the full pop till Friday when the regular work week ends.

I rolled on Kromcrush, with my friends. We got our names and there was still a 7k+ queue for one of our friends to get in because he was late. It your choice to stay on an extremely populated server. But don’t worry about us, we are fine

Airmed, where can you find that ratio?

This whole. “New servers will be dead.” BS, is just a way for people to make themselves feel better about being on a stupidly overpopulated server and not accept the fact they are dumb.

Not everyone live with their parents and gets a subscription from mommy’s or daddy’s credit card…Some of us are parents, some of us do have to work…In couple hours you should start seeing peeks again.

we need figures on server population and ratios asap to see if its even worth continuing on a new realm

Even as they created new servers leading up to launch, they still reported that people were creating new characters on the 3 in their post warning that they would be overpopulated. That’s human behavior. You could spin up 100 servers before launch, and people would clammer onto the top 5 servers fearing that anything else will not sustain it’s population. We’re all playing mind games with each other. It boils down to

“Why don’t you join a lower pop server?”

“Because no one else will join it and stay.”

“But if all the people who say that actually did, then you probably would have a healthy population on that other server.”

“Ya but they won’t so I won’t.”

Infinite loop of us creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I’m one of those people. And I agree 100% with this, never made sense why a stress test had to be paid for and wasn’t free to really stress the servers.
