This is just a suggestion but maybe instead of charging 25 for 1, 50 for 3 and 80 for 6 it should be 5 for 1, 10 for 3, 15 for 6. Blizzard would probably make more money if you truly think about it.
One part of FFXIV that I loved is that $18 will let you transfer as many characters as you want from server a to server b.
In WoW? Itâll be $250 for your ten toons to move off the server.
So your suggestion is to make it 80% cheaper? Why not just say that?
The point of high prices is not actually profit. Itâs about the game and making sure players canât just skip around realms at the drop of a hat and mess with populations and communities.
So thatâs why things arenât cheaper, it has to restrict us. But the bundle is still a huge help and a great discount.
People at blizzard believe itâs immersion to be trapped on a dead realm away from friends.
If they made it cheaper, it would ruin that experience for people.
Thatâs a fat load of kodo pucky. If that were the actual purpose, it would be far better enforced by timegating how frequently a character can be transferred, which would apply equally to everyone; not disproportionately to poorer players while being an afterthought to those with ample disposable income.
The prices given for the transfer bundles are still ridiculously high. The price for a single character transfer is ridiculously high. $25 for an automated process to cut/paste your character data is ridiculous. Itâs pure greed. The service should frankly be free, but even if Blizzard insists on charging for it, it should be lower.
Start transfers at $10 for one character and add $5 per additional, and maybe weâd be talking.
Yeah because transfers for AH items would be meta
Because thatâs not how manipulation works, you have to try and trick people into thinking itâs a good idea and beneficial to them. You canât just come on the forums and Q_Q that stuff should be cheaper
Nah pretty sure its just profit at this point. Servers are connected for all forms of end game content (mythic raiding being a slight exception which gets opened up after a few months). Server identity has been dead since cross realm zones in MoP.
No the cost is meant to be a deterrent to keep people from flip flopping servers every 3 days
With that said 25$ is not a lot of money. I guess it would be to a college kid whos parents still pay for everything but its not to a normal working adult. Most people make roughly $25+ an hour where I live
Again, that explanation is a total crock, as you yourself expose immediately in your next sentence. $25 is not a deterrent to serial server hopping to someone who can afford it. A cooldown on how frequently a character can be server transferred would be infinitely more effective, and more fair to players with less discretionary income.
$25 to transfer one character is overpriced, but if youâre really only transferring a single character one time, it might be a bullet worth biting. Itâs when you want to transfer multiple characters that the absurdity of that price point truly comes through. With cross-faction PvE o the horizon and character-per-server limits lifted since I made them, I would like to transfer my Alliance characters to my Horde server. This would have cost over $300 before the bundle options, but even with them, it would still cost upwards of $150.
For an automated process to cut/paste my character data.
That is ludicrous. The bundle price is better than the lack of option we had before, but itâs still vastly overpriced, and Iâm not paying it. Which means my Alliance characters will continue collecting dust, my engagement with the game will continue declining, and Iâm more likely to quit entirely than continue paying Blizzard a sub fee.
Thatâs not really a thing anymore.
You would have had a point earlier in the gameâs life cycle when things were much more restricted, but not anymore.
Lowering the price would increase sales of this service and would probably go a lot further to getting more people together.
It should be much lower but companies are too GREEDY to want to make it them worthwhile.
I would say itâs more of a âItâs always been this priceâ and they havenât looked at it as something to be lowered.
Less greed and more that they havenât bothered to reassess this yet.
They would absolutely sell more transfers if they brought the cost down.
Yes I know itâs âalways been this priceâ and that these bundles are nice.
But itâs still greedy af (not surprised, since it is a corporation)
(People still push themselves to buy it to overcome the monotony so itâs really just human psychology at work⌠I donât have actual numbers so itâs just assumptive but I wouldnât be surprised if they are doing A, OK, with their set up now)
Didnât realize it was still 2009.
Or they could just balance the horde/ally ratio. Would be nice.
I just read the article on this today and literally smirked so hard at the pricing.
Woe to the poor unfortunate new player who had the misfortune of rolling on a dead server only to realize that there is nobody there and itâs not a normal thing.
I am not certain what goes through the devs minds sometimes.
How exactly would cheaper character transfers not be beneficial to you?
making a new character is free, no one forced you to play on a dead server beforehand
