The complexity of WW monk

Hello forum

I’ve just started to level a monk, just because end of season and I’m bored.

I’ve never played a monk prior,

I’ve played most classes excluding priest/dh/rogue

Some classes at a fairly reasonable level:

Paladin
Warrior
Mage

I’m only at level 35 and monk is significantly more complex and has way more keybinds then any class I’ve played before

I don’t know if it’s because I’m totally unfamiliar with the spec, does anyone feel this way? Are they suffering from button bloat?

Edit: to clarify I’m not speaking about the basic dps rotation

Really? I’ve always considered it a better players version of HDH. The only real complexity is combo strikes and that’s pretty easy. The core rotation of a WW is pretty simple IMHO. Maybe I’m just not getting it

Was more referring to all the extra buttons and abilities outside of the dos rotation

A lot of those tend to be borderline useless tbf.

No, you’re getting it. It’s not a hard spec. None of them are. I think the most challenging would be affliction warlock and shadow priest.

I came into this thread thinking it would be sarcasm lol

Maybe in a pve context sure

I can’t remember how many buttons it takes now, but I seem to recall it having an unusually high number of buttons for its rotation.

Most of those buttons are just utility buttons. You’ll find that Paladin also has a lot of utility buttons. The fact that Monk can do all 3 means they have more baseline utility like leg sweep, paralyze, ring of peace, etc.

WW Monk-

Dps rotation:

Tiger pal
Black out kick
Fist of fury
Rising sun kick
spinning crane kick
Fist of the white tiger (optional)

Utilities/extras:

Roll
Flying serpent kick
Detox
Expel harm
Fortifying brew
Leg sweep
Paralysis
Transcendence
Transcendence transfer
Touch of death
Disable
Touch of karma
Tigers lust
Chi wave
Vivify
Ring of peace
Spear hand strike
Storm, earth, fire
Invoke Xuen
Diffuse magic
Whirling dragon punch
Grapple weapon

28 binds

Ret Paladin-

Dps rotation:

Judgement
Crusader strike
Blade of justice
Final verdict
Wake of ashes
Divine storm

Utilities/extras:

Hammer of Justice
Rebuke
Blessing of freedom
Blessing of protection
Blessing of sacrifice
Hand of hinderance
Consecration
Divine steed
Flash of light
Turn evil
Lay on hands
Hammer of wrath
Word of glory
Flash of light
Divine shield
Shield of vengeance
Cleanse toxins

23 binds

Hmm so only 5 more binds than a class I’m comfortable with? Maybe it’s something to do with the cool-down lengths? With Ret having some significant CD times? Idk

No they are fine.

No one said that, I’m asking for opinions

That little squiggly symbol at the end with the dot is a question mark

It’s really just the fact that they have a lot of utility. Classes like warrior have very little utility, but Rogues have a lot of utility as an example. Basically, not all classes are created equal in terms of utility, hell Druids have more buttons than any other class and are extremely useful despite their throughput. Monk rotation is really really simple until you get weapons of order and fist cancelling.

I love my WW. Although torpedo gets me in trouble a lot like falling off cliffs. It’s the fastest spec.

Also, it was the best dps for the side walls of Ghuun back in BFA because of self heal and fast.

She’s my alliance alt, but I just haven’t done much with her because of lack of time and how alt unfriendly it has been until 9.2 and at this point I don’t feel like it

The saving grace for WW is the fact that it’s probably the lowest APM spec in the game.

Yes, it’s pretty complex. A lot of WW abilities interact with each other in terms of increasing damage or reducing CDs. There’s also the mastery to consider where if you can help it, you want to avoid using the same ability twice.

The greatest advice I can give you is to remember that WW is an energy spec. Build chi (combo points) toward rising sun kick and fists of fury. Get those on CD so you can use whirling dragon punch. Pool energy if you have to in order to use those abilities. It’s okay to not use an ability every GCD.

Everything else is just filler to keep you busy between those two CDs.

When you start running dungeons, those two spells are still prio-but then spinning crane kick comes into play. I use the animations of it and fists of fury to help with the energy starvation at times.

You’ll get the hang of it. WW is a fun spec to play but it’s slow.

You’re missing at least Aura Master for Paladin btw.

I don’t understand why people roll a new class and/or boost and then complain there’s “button bloat”. Pruning is absolutely terrible for the game.

Truth is, you don’t HAVE to use every button if you don’t want to. If you feel it’s too many, don’t use the abilities you feel you don’t need. If you take the time to learn a class, you won’t feel you have too many abilities.

You think so?

Flurry, Roundhouse kick, one energy-creator, one alternate kick and the whirlwind kick which isn’t a regular attack. And touch of death.

It’s actually pretty tame compared to other classes.

In the end it’s very simple just don’t hit the same ability twice. I love monk though it’s been my most consistently fun class since I picked it up in BFA.
