Regardless of how you feel about it, the community is largely of the sentiment that WoW is in a TERRIBLE place right now. Majority of posts are negative and people declaring their exit from the game with cancelled subs. People leaving to try other MMO’s such as FFXIV, ESO, and even SWTOR.
This exodus of WoW to other better MMO’s and overall negative opinions on the game is something I’ve never seen before. I’ve been here since MoP. And wether you like it or not, this can only be good for the game. The market is competitive. We should not give our money to Activision while they consistently make the wrong decisions. I want WoW to be great again.
I’m really happy people are finally taking their money elsewhere. Hopefully this is a wake up call to the developers. And to the people that completely disagree with what I’ve said, that’s fine you can think the game is amazing but I’m telling you, if Activision is a company worth anything at all, this game will only get better after Shadowlands.
WoW’s community is the literal incarnation of doomsaying. They will complain about literally anything even if it’s mostly fine.
The community could be given 5.2 again and it would still complain endlessly about it.
WoW is far from perfect but 99% of the stuff you see here or on the subreddit is just a bunch of baseless whining and complaining for the sake of complaining.
I have honest to goodness never interacted with a community as overwhelmingly negative and toxic as this one.
What you’re saying is not wrong but it’s not just the forums, and reddit. It’s news outlets, and other games success amidst all the negativity is telling.
Well you didn’t offer up many things you wanted changed In this post. That might help get your point across a little bit. But people always talk smack. Talk Is cheap. Even so people take It seriously.
This is my hope too. You can look at almost every public platform where the game is discussed right now and the consensus generally is WoW is in a rough spot. I hope this is ringing loud and clear in the ears of whoever needs to hear it.
And I would like to challenge this, would you say WoW is furthest from perfection than it ever has been? I mean back to back expansions of mediocre game design. (Take into consideration here that you may not like TBC, or Vanilla but you cannot deny at the time it was innovative, widely praised, and set a new standard to MMO’s)
Despite the negative sentiment of the game, I can’t help but to think at times that at this point it’s mostly everyone’s (Majority of players and developers that is) fault the way that the game that it is right now. I’m not saying it is, but I just can’t help but to think that.
Like, I get it. Shadowlands, over 6 months for a major content patch only to be disappointed for many and needs a lot more to be desired. They really should improve a lot of things about the game like increasing player quality such as make Torghast not to have a time gated reward structure that players would eventually resent (They still do, abeit to a lesser degree since Soul Ash is grindable now) instead of actually doing it for not only player power reasons but also extrinsic reasons. Conduit Energy is another example of the developer’s hubris.
But at the same time, I think that some people are being far too negative of certain aspects of the game. People leave the game? That’s fine. People always come and go when it comes to video games and I don’t think World of Warcraft is any different despite the state of the game that it is in. I thought the latest raid cinematic is awesome with the Jailer showing off his brand new armor but many people leered over that Sylvanas is still alive and it has gotten bad to the point where people actually wrote death threats to the writers.
At this point whether or not the game is going to improve is anyone’s guess. A lot of people are leaving for pretty valid reasons. Some people are hopeful, some people are cynical about it… and now FFXIV is coming into the picture, ActiBlizz needs to step up the game to breed excellence.
No. WoD and BFA were the furthest from perfect any expansion could’ve been and I’d even go so far as to say that Legion was also pretty bad.
SL is plagued by some questionable design choices and a pretty slow patch cycle, but at least it’s actually delivering upon just about everything the expansion set out to do. BFA systems needed to be completely abandoned halfway through and it took an eternity for anything to be even remotely convenient in late BFA, while WoD is quite literally a failed expansion. It was completely unfinished and delivered upon maybe a quarter of what it attempted to deliver upon.
I think they’re focusing the game to a certain play style. If what they kept suits your style then everything probably seems fine but there are a lot of casual players that lost their style of play.
Well, like I said liking Shadowlands is no problem it’s all subjective. But 3/4 of the most recent expansions being perceived as less than favorable in your own words is pretty bad. With what youre saying it seems as Activision can hardly provide players with a decent experience nowadays.
Yes, Activision will either deliver a better game or they’ll find a more agressive way to monitize the game to make up for loss subs. Obviously we hope they can deliver a better experience.
