You had touched on a point of debate, albeit unknowingly.
There are some people (myself included) who like to let folks have time to join in a boss, because I believe it’s polite to do so.
Others are more inwardly focused and feel no obligation to others.
People will assume, when you’re asking this question, that you’re not asking genuinely but raising a sore point and immediately get defensive. So that is why you got the reaction you did.
The fact that you can try to get across the zone only to find the rare just dying, repeatedly, is another sore point with people.
And sometimes, people are just in a hurry, wanting to get things done and go on their way so unwilling to wait.
Personally, I like Korthia’s design with regards to rares. At least with many of them, they have some sort of clue that they are spawning which gives you some time to get there or decide you’re too far away to get there in time.
It’s made worse in that not all ZM rares actually show up on the map when they spawn, which makes this a bit more frustrating for people and raises tension.
Also we had a whistle that allowed one to basically cross the entire zone in seconds. Even if we had this in ZM, given the geographic geometry of ZM I doubt this would help even if we had it given all the mountains/scaled heights.
If I see a rare I will wait until more people are there and then engage. But then somtimes I just go as hard as I can and see if I can blow it up before anyone else gets there. I am admittedly a terrible person at times.
Gone are the days of people calling out rares for everyone to join in to kill. Either race to the rare or miss out. Long story short… no one cares about you or your experience. If you’re looking for a community, then stop doing world content and get into instanced content with a guild.
Otherwise accept that you’ve chosen the single player experience for this MMORPG that the community demanded.
or allowing a timer addon to be created like what we had on timeless isle through the use of the API and communicating through a hidden chat channel with other players/addon users.
I like to think people save all their cooldowns in solo que, bgs, and lfr for those raespawns in the misguided belief it will give them better rewards.
Otherwise why would they not use CDs on all that content, but blow every single cd they have, double flask, etc just to kill "rare"spawns.
Sounds like you actually were being whiney to be honest. Dont play the “All I did was ask a question” card. You knew the answer, they started it because they wanted to. I’m betting you threw in an “lol” in there.
So what, they started it because they were ready to start it. Their game time doesnt revolve around you , kid.
You know, personally speaking. I always try to be considerate to others and wait before starting an encounter like that. Especially if it’s a once-a-week spawn. I can actually understand seeing that as selfishness on the one who spawned it without waiting for other people to get there first. I think you were just frustrated when you asked that question and to be perfectly frank I would’ve wanted to ask too. I probably would’ve waited like ten minutes myself to give others time to show up. If no one showed up after like 5 or 10 minutes then I would start the fight. My advice next time is to not express any feelings about it. It will certainly get people on your case for being whiny or whatever. And never hold expectations to people like waiting for you to get somewhere, either. Always assume people are not going to wait for you in a game therefore you don’t get disappointed or frustrated when stuff like this happens.
When I went back and got my second lure, I wasn’t positive it would work. I just fished it up to see. I would have been so embarrassed if I called the whole zone over for nothing.
The community is ALWAYS toxic at some points. I remember, years years ago, when I nearly broke down because someone was mocking about harming (in a certain way, but I will not say here) women in trade chat and others joined him in his chorus. It was my worst experience with trade chat and other experiences were terrible too. Always toxic, not worse or not better.
Edited to add : WE NEED LIVE MODERATORS IN TRADE CHAT AND HERE. I have requested for that to happen many times!
Edited again to add: You can easily see same people trolling in LGBTQ+ and gender related threads. No action against them as they are still trolling here. This is just one example.
