The community has made me afraid to heal

They tried in their own way. I gave up expecting logic from others long ago, it really helps to understand most people.

Tanks,
checks notes
*Most Tanks do not need healers to survive. dispels maybe. but raw healing no. 2 seconds had to have been a tank mechanic and or error. not a healer issue.

a tank rotting away over time? then sure, maybe the healers should have been more active.

Tanks are fairly robust due to all the talents. the healers really just need to keep the dps alive and should only worry about the tank if they dip below 35% hp or are actively taking more Tank hits than they should. (usually from slow tank swaps but other times from intentionally holding off for certain strategies.)

Healers are far weaker than in previous expansions because of the increased hp and damage done modifier that went out just before the expansion launched.

I wouldn’t call them “far weaker”. Did you play the beta by any chance and heal it at all?

Healers were walking gods. Every healer basically had a lay on hands or two in normal spells. Stuff like sanctify critting for more than your hp bar, monks making the dungeon team invincible by hitting spinning crane kick in aoe.

Idk how to quantify pre 40% healers vs post 40% healers vs SL season 1 healers but it really isn’t far weaker. I still have plenty of opportunity to dps.

i could full heal players with ease in Shadowlands. i see healers in DF struggling to do that in 3 GCDs. like, do i need to get out and push? about the only healers coming close to that are like Evoker and maybe Restro Druid.

but maybe its a gear thing and the rest of the healers are fine at the upper end of gear balance. or i just managed to only get healers learning to heal with the other specs. :scream:

There will always be something for toxic players to gripe about. If you really like healing, keep at it! Some of my first max level dungeons as a healer in BfA got comments like “imagine playing holy priest” - it’ll be literally anything, I swear.

Yeah after a horrible SMBG 14 Saturday I called it quits for healing this week. Too many just stand in AOE and die.

Last night I was frantically healing a tank standing still in a sanguine pool typing out a whole sentence without a shred of self awareness.

You could try getting gud

I’m maining holy and prot right now for that sweet sweet draconic rune gold (sometimes up to 10k a run just for the satchel of cooperation reward). I havent had any problems in dungeons or heroics. When I started heroics i just let people know i hadnt done it on heroic yet and they were always really cool. I won’t do mythics with randoms though.

No your the one grasping at straws, launch was exactly 19 years ago. If you account for beta its been over 20 years of the game being playable.

Why are you even arguing about it though, are you mad that you’re a Legion/BFA baby or something?

First, was it so hard to type good which was just one more letter and the correct spelling or did we revert to slang speech or hooked on phonics.

It is true, I could try getting better or good, after taking a hiatus from on-line gaming for 3 years. I had just come back, and it was my 1st month as one of my favorite classes a Restoration Shaman. A lot had changed since I last played WoW in 2011 and 2020 had happened especially in retail.

I know how to heal, been a healer for many years and I go out of my way to learn every single class basic, so I know how they play and what to expect when healing them in solo and group content. It was that toxic 1st month as a returning player that turned me off from wanting to play a healer again.

Since then, have I tried healing again, yes. Have I gotten better since that 1st month, yes. Would I go back to healing full time, currently still no. Will I go out of my way to help players if they need it with the knowledge, I have gotten from playing, yes. Would I stop what I am doing to help another player complete content, you better believe it.

yep. been tanking dungeon content for many years.

i have long kept to the philosophies of “you pull it; you tank it” and “my taunt button is for the healer”.

now, if the healer starts pulling, then we have a new game altogether which i call “you want something to do friend?”

If you think healing is stressful I would stay way way waaaaay far away from tank. Unless you have memorized all the optimal paths for M+ and are ready to be the defacto leader of every group.

I only play healers, I’m having a great time.

" if you do things right, people won’t be sure you have done anything at all"

Tank won’t be any better my friend. They get just as much abuse if not more.

Honestly, healing is a thankless job. If everything is going smoothly people love you. But the second a dps stands in the wrong puddle they’ll hate you for the rest of the run and you’re the reason their life is terrible.

The thing is; it’s not a healers job to babysit the group. It’s their job to heal whatever damage the tank can’t mitigate, top up from unavoidable damage, and heal the occasional misstep.

It’s not the healers job to constantly spam heals so the dps don’t have to do mechanics. If there’s a hit coming, everyone should be using their defensives and positioning themselves properly to take as little damage as they can.

Unfortunately a lot of dps players in this game only care about topping the damage meter and will expect you to babysit them while they stand in the fire not using any defensives.

And should they die because they failed to keep themselves alive? Well now you’re a bad healer.

People in this game are not kind and the second you challenge what they believe their job is, they’ll jump down your throat for it.

That’s just the reality of healing in WoW.

And like I said at the top of the post, tanks don’t have it much better.

If you want less grief, roll dps. But you better be good. Do mechanics, use defensives and watch your positioning. Otherwise I’ll be calling you out for it.

i respect that sometimes the rogue pulls aggro on a caster trash mob, the rogue and the caster go to the side, where the rogue perma-interrupts the caster while the group fights the rest of the pack.

i appreciate that.

I appreciate all healers that give my dummy DPS self some healz and keep me alive.

I go out of my way to specifically say thank you. It’s not much, but it’s honest work.

What people don’t seem to understand is that most people who are willing to heal groups are not attempting to slack off or not do anything. If we see people cratering, we’ll pull out all stops in most cases to keep people alive, even though rapid drops are usually the fault of the DPS. Healers typically aren’t just tagging along for the ride. We have in most cases specific mouse or keyboard layouts to make sure we can get heals on you as fast as possible. I’ve always likened healing to chaperoning an elementary field trip, at least when it goes sideways. You are almost always the adult in the room.

Abuse the fact that you are their lifeline and let them die. No healer can say they haven’t done this. Go ahead, try it! Also fun to note people are more hesitant to kick the healer & tank than they are the expendable DPS players.

If you’re trying to avoid toxicity, avoid tanking too. I received more ‘feedback’ in my 1 year of tanking than I have in 7+ years of healing.
