I mean, the heavy handed agenda pushing they did in the first couple episodes made me roll my eyes across the street, but after that when they really started focusing on the actual plot, instead of political messages, i think it was a pretty good show to binge on.
I mean, it is still kind of weird that they turned an old archie comic/animated series/late 90's teen sitcom into a dark and gritty netflix series, but i've seen weirder adaptations.
I like the cat they picked out to play Salem, it was adorable. Shame it didn't get more screen time because the actress they picked to play Sabrina was allergic to cats. Makes me question why they didn't just do a CGI cat or a crappy looking puppet like the 90's version (low key disappointment about the lack of crappy puppet)
Sounds like they should have gotten a new actress to play Sabrina. That cat stole the sitcom.
Me and the wife genuinely enjoyed the show as a whole. It’s not the best show by any stretch, but we did catch ourselves binge-watching the entire series. I didn’t know that about the actress w/ the allergy to cats (interesting casting choice, now that you put it in context of the relationship her character had with the Salem in the original series). I guess that’s why they didn’t skip the beat with familiars being specialize goblins of rank, and thus would just serve as protectors and not so much as guides.
Either way, the first 10 minutes of the first episode were kind of like “Wellllll, ok then!” and me and her were just coming down from our Haunting at Hill House horror euphoria, so it was a great transition overall.
I’m actually catching myself wanting to re-watch it already.
It was fun to watch.
Just started the show late last night and I’ve been enjoying it so far only 3 episodes in though.
Great show. Got us to watch Riverdale. Not as great. Not bad, but the whole time we kept wondering what minor super powers the characters might develop. Spoiler: no super powers.
great show loved it
Loved it, great show. It surprised me. As for “agendas” I thought it was handled quite well, though I dislike the fact they were having the “evil” witches calling on deities of various cultures and religions as evil demonic beings that aren’t. I mean come on Kwan Yin and Freya??
It was a different Freya. The story of the Feast of Feasts is exclusive to the Greendale coven.
Not the Character… and not during the feast… when they were rezzing the one girl in the cemetery, they called upon Freya as well as many other goddesses.
I was honestly expecting some kind of reveal that the Beast wasn’t actually Satan.
The show actually touches on this briefly when Sabrina and the High Priest meet for the first time and she questions his claim that their religion, which is according to the priest, supposed to be about freedom forcing her to sign away her freedom to remain part of it. But nothing really seems to come from that.
They were just lying to her so she’d sign. Doesn’t make much sense that they would not continue lying until she signed the book, but yeah…
Her being half mortal grants her certain privileges that being a full-blooded witch does not, and she was exceptionally powerful before she ever signed the book. After she signed the book, she could conjure hellfire from the pit. As madam satan put it, Sabrina was being groomed to be the dark lord’s foot soldier, in place of herself. (Or as her familiar put it, Sabrina was being groomed to be queen of hell)
Additionally, there is a running theory that Nick Scratch is actually the dark lord in disguise. The devil has two lesser known nicknames, one being “Old Nick” and the other being “Old Scratch”
No one knew she was allergic to cats, not even herself, until she picked up the cat to cuddle against her face
Heads up all, they just added a holiday special to netflix for it.
Spooky for sure and loved the story telling. I really admire the work put into making the culture fleshed out and evoking the morally gray flag throughout the plot.
