I was so giddy and excited to play vanilla and come here to talk about classic wow until the community started to ruin it for me. There seem to be contests between the people on this forum to see who can get who reported and banned from- or just to have their posts removed because they disagree with them.
I am an older person. I have a high tolerance for immaturity. Why doesn’t Blizzard? Because of their banning policy and how vague it is, people can be reported and have their posting ability postponed for several days. That is just childish because very immature people have successfully had ME banned for doing nothing but sharing my opinion. Is this how retail is as well? Is this how people behave in trade chat? In world chat?
I was excited for this game due to the community it has. But I may have to stop sharing, stop speaking on these forums. And when the game comes out- I won’t engage in barrens chat for fear of punitive measures reported by immature people and executed by a machine. I am worried I will not play Classic if this keeps being an issue
Trolls understand forum policy. They toe the line and bait you over.
I don’t post anywhere near like I used to. It’s just not worth it. Personally, I just trust that the Classic devs do the right thing. Ythisens’s posts went a long way in giving me hope that they’re on the correct path. Therefore it’s much easier to just ignore the trolls.
I understand what you are saying. I post, sometimes a lot, and in most of my posts the troll brigade flies in to report the thread and try to get me banned. If you disagree with their position, they lose it and report you.
Here is the thing, though. Of all the times I post I’ve been banned from the forum 1 time (for 24hrs) and it wasn’t for talking about changes to classic which is the singular topic that puts people on tilt like I have never seen in my life.
I got banned for getting into a flame war, probably with the guy who posted here.
Lesson- just be polite, make your points and avoid all of the trolls and you won’t have to worry.
edit: and if you want to stay classy, don’t even bother to report people who troll you. Support an open forum, an exchange of ideas, and keep trying to influence to make the game the best it can be!
I’ve been posted on the Classic forums since they put them up without being banned or had posting removed temporarily.
Like Mogar said, many trolls will try to bait people into crossing the line so they can report them. You just need to know what the line is yourself so you know how far you can go without crossing it.
In-game will be a bit different since you’ll need a lot of people reporting you in order to trigger the automated system. It’s a concern to be sure, but it’s not something that a single troll can do.
Edit2: In the event you are not one of Saqes’Whiskee’s alts, the automation after multitude of reports serves to moderate the forum, seeing as blizzard has no desire to do so themselves.
My first punitive measure lasted 3 days for “trolling” I never trolled. But then I looked up what the policy for trolling “means” and it was the vaguest thing I’ve ever seen.
It’s impossible to have an “open” forum with policy like this enforced. I’m not too mad about it. I’ll probably only come to read what people say from now on.
That is a sad attitude. And believe it or not, it wasn’t a #NoChanger who reported me. If was someone proposing changes- not that it matters. But I think people would assume it was a #NoChanger causing this mayhem to me
No it just seems that way to you and other long-time proven trolls. You, Whiskee, Saqe and others have a long history of trolling and only folks new to the forums are oblivious to it. Acting like a victim as you and the others do is pathetic and shallow as
To the OP: I would be happier if blizzard actually took an active hand in the moderation here, but they don’t and some of us are using the only tools available to us to combat them.
no he is 100% right on that anyway, maybe not on other stuff so much, but the primary definition of ‘trolling’ here is “something I do not agree with”, but NOT the only definition.
It ain’t easy, for sure, and the one time I made a mistake and got sucked into flaming I got a 24 hour ban. I’ve seen threads get automatically removed from the forum from trolls reporting, but as long as you (as the OP) stay polite and on point, guess what? That post comes back to the forum. Anyway, I wish you luck and Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas!
But, Classic wow have a reason, the game have a cause that reason/cause is launch a game without any QOL, any feature, this game have a target Audience, Devs had sayd that in blizzcon i will link this down. So if you think that come here and ask for changes that will be against that target audience, you are wrong sorry for say that.
You are against the target audience, you are against the crowd that ask for this game, so obviosly that this players will call you a troll and anyone that will try this and is that fine, because these players HAVE to protect their game.
While there definitely are people who will call anybody disagreeing with them a troll, there are also people who are constantly stirring up arguments and upon being called a troll for it they just turn to “you only say that because you disagree with me!” as a shield against any kind of criticism.
Especially when it comes to stuff like class balance, which is confirmed to be not changing.
At this point anyone who continues to make “changes” posts is likely a troll. It has been made very clear by Blizzard that Classic will have no gameplay changes. This provides an easy in for trolls who have one goal: to aggitate people. All they have to do is post a thread with lists or changes they’d like to see or changes that will be in the game etc…
It has little to do with people’s actual opinions. If you’ve paid any attention or been here for more than a week you’ll know that “no changes” is confirmed. So posting otherwise, to be frank, is trolling.
There are a few exceptions here and there where you have some guy who hasn’t been following Classic news. But by and large, trolls create change threads. It’s a dead give away.
Discussing what could/should be changed does not belong in this forum. What belongs here is discussion relating to Classic as it is. Guild recruitment, what race/class to play, talent builds, gear, dungeons etc… That’s what should be discussed here.
Incoming “but what about sharding” troll strawman response…
Actually blizzard has never made a blanket statement that they didn’t want to hear about any changes on these forums. They have said no to specific changes but on the other hand they explicitly said in the dev water cooler they were considering non core gameplay changes. And in fact we know about several changes they are making.
