They changed Excess Fire from a 100% change to grant Brain Freeze to just a 50% chance. This has really made the spec feel noticeably worse. The whole idea of it is that it flows into Excess Frost, which is activated by consuming Excess Fire. Excess Frost is then used by casting a Flurry. But with it now only being a 50% chance to get that Brain Freeze proc you regularly find yourself with no Flurry to use. It just messes up the flow completely.
I have sung the praises of frostfire since the expansion launched, especially the frost version. Gladly proclaiming it the gold standard for hero talent trees. The changes they’d made to it previously only continued to improve it. This is the first time they’ve changed it for the worse. It is just a baffling decision and I am extremely disappointed. Please change it back, blizz!

The over-saturation of Brain Freeze procs for Frostfire was definitely a thing, but they went the wrong way about trying to fix it. The better way to approach it should’ve been reducing Flurry cooldown by 50% instead of a 50% chance to generate it. I’ve definitely gone through several Excess Fire charges without generating Flurry and that feels extremely bad.

100% Agree. I didn’t know about the Excess fire change. I started looking for what i broke with gear or stat changes, because Frost Frostfire suddenly felt clunky and I have had to do a lot of frostbolt fishing for procs.
Please Blizzard, chage this back!!! Undo the Excess Fire Change!!!

Reverse Excess Fire nerf! Not only are you now subject to many dry periods of no procs, this change removed some skillful fun in the rotation where you could store some flurry procs in the excess fire finger mode. Rotation went from flowing and fun to clunky and bad!

Have to disagree, Brainfreeze procs were not oversaturated. As we can now see the Brainfreeze proc rate smoothed out the rotation.
Gonna bump this to complain about this some more. This is all too common a sight now:
Two stacks of Excess Frost, just waiting for a charge of Flurry to be able to actually use them. It’s so damn frustrating. Remember, we inherently get more procs of Excess Frost than Excess Fire. Frostfire Empowerment gives us both an Excess Fire and an Excess Frost, and then using that Excess Fire gives us an additional Excess Frost. Excess Fire can be used freely because it triggers from Ice Lance. Whereas the more plentiful Excess Frost triggers from the now much less frequent Flurry. The whole rotation has just been clunked to heck by this change!
It is astonishingly bad design, they have with this change managed to REINTRODUCE feast famine design. It should never feel bad that by using the ability they want you to use. You dont get the second part of that said design, and yet here we are. You have 0 flurries and you have multiple charges of it, and what happens next. You use them and get 0 procs. Its just terrible and feels even worse. If they didnt like the procs of brain freezes they could have reduced other things like empowerment procs and just buffed their damage to compensate the reduced proc rates of them. But this change is just awful.

Yeah I don’t even really play Frost and this is just crappy design. The Fire version - while still generating Excess Frost procs you occasionally can’t use right away - just flows WAY better via Excess Fire knocking 5 seconds off PF to at least enable you to use the Excess Frost proc fairly quickly and consistently. Doesn’t make any sense that this can’t be analogously applied to Flurry. It would be so annoying/disruptive if Fire’s version functioned the same way.
