The Caverns of Time portal compromise

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already read Kaivax’s post about why they removed portals when they developed the SW/Org portal rooms. After seeing them backtrack on the Caverns of Time, what are your feelings about portals? Did we really just get too used to the convenience of being able to go anywhere whenever we wanted, or should they have never removed any of these portals to begin with? Should they stop with CoT or put some of the other portals like Wyrmrest and Shrine back into action?

I can sure say I’m glad I’ll have the CoT portal back soon, because I was thoroughly annoyed at constantly flying down that endless tunnel.

All I can say is that you can’t in good faith say a portal to CoT is causing a problem for the game when it’s been in the game for 10 of WoW’s 14 years. Some of the other portals being removed, ehhhh, I guess. But Blizz going “CoT portal is making the world smaller! It must be removed for the good of the game!1” when it’s been in the game since 2008 (and even earlier if you had the rep) is just a load.

I completely agree. They should’ve removed all the old portals from their locations, added a portal to the new portal room where those portals were, and added all of the old portals to the portal room. Centralize, not remove.

Any time they put in a well liked feature, then take it out later, there will be backlash.

Players do not like nice things taken away.

Yeah, we really are. To suggest we haven’t been babied with QoL changes and convenience is denial. God forbid we know how to get to Tanaris.

Professions, Portals, and Player Agency

It’s not strange at all. Increases to mobility always make the world feel larger. Before being able to drive, most people in the United States are limited to where their feet or a bicycle can safely take them. We’ve had a port to CoT since BC, with rep, and since Wrath for everyone. There’s been a CoT portal in the game probably longer than most players have been playing. Hard to say we’ve been babied by something that missed being part of the original game by one expansion.

Their point was valid but removing useful portals was stupid. Keeping northrend portal as dalaran and having legion portal azsuna is the dumbest thing I’ve seen. By their own lore dalaran is in broken isles. To me having a portal to somewhere tells me the world is huge and you need said portal to get there. I’d much rather spend a loading screen to get somewhere over spending 5 or so minutes on a flight path. Why couldn’t we use the vindicaars technology to replace all flight paths with the beacons for instant travel

We get a Dalaran HS though. I’d prefer a Northrend HS over a Portal.
