That makes sense I do hear it in the heart of the forest frequently.
Many of the battle pets make the chirping sound, as well as Pepe, which many players still carry around with them from time to time.
Cap’n Crackers rides on a player’s shoulder and might not be visible to you unless you’re really zoomed in and looking. He makes periodic chirping sounds, just as an example.
Pepe makes a constant chirping sound, though I always assumed I was the only one who could hear him when I have him riding around on my head.
I would assume that what you’re hearing is a battle pet or Pepe on another character near you.
Edited to add: I wrote this before reading all the responses, and I didn’t know that about the soulshape sounds. It’s exactly the same sound effect, however.
I’ve been hearing it for a while now as well. Literally just heard it while standing in the mald covenant. It can happen anywhere in game and has happened when completely alone. Driving me and my dog nuts as its louder then the other ambient sounds
My soulbind isn’t Korayn it’s Nidya and I keep hearing it. Maybe I am going insane…can’t be all these poison fumes right?
Yeah I was in the Maw earlier and heard it chirp.
I think I only get this when I have my moth soul shape selected.
Not using it, just when it’s the one I have selected and then i hear noises when other people use their soul shape near me but it sounds like I’m making the noise.
I hear that too. All the time. In my main character, in oribos, instances etc. In my alts in stormwind etc. It was driving me crazy, ty for the post, im not insane!

I too have had this happening to me repeatedly for a few days now and I’ve gone through my addons and weak auras and there is nothing that has a whistle sound enabled nor does weak aura’s even have the same sound. Im using ElvUI and Weak Auras. The whistle happens randomly, there is no sound enabled on my chat either. So far only happening to me when in Bastion. I’ve had my addons for awhile and this started randomly happening one day. I think blizz is trolling.
Oops, thought this was about someone’s wife’s snoring noise, like my wife’s.
Or when you randomly target the Tower Sentinel.
Yes! And the Deathspeakers always greet me with a sprinting chirp. It’s hard not to die from the laughing spell i go into every time it happens.

Yes, the squeaky bat item is fun and sort of like a squeaky kiss. It is reusable, can be macroed, only has a 1 sec cooldown, and can be sold on the AH. I have it macroed to kick so I know when it interrupt.
I really do want to know what the bird chirp is though.
Oh - and has anyone else been hearing the Oracle sound clip “lets search for shinies!” Or something close to that. It was from a daily quest in Wrath if I remember. I can’t figure out why I randomly hear about needing to find shiny things!

I would hear it when I was in Oribos, usually near the teleporters, but then I have been hearing it in the Maw, Maldr. and Reven., and there is no other player around me usually. Not sure what it is. Sounds like Pepe, but it is weird that it would be in so many places where there aren’t other players around.

I just got a drop while questing in Maldraxxus called “Hairy Egg” “The chirps of whatever’s inside grow louder. This egg is hatching into something” Duration: 3 days. While questing I heard the chirping.
IT HAS BEEN SOLVED, cripes people. It is the Horn of the Wild Hunt soulbind ability from the covenant. I think people are just replying without even reading.

The horn started for me after taking the latest Moth soul shape. The bird chirp came 2 days later and it can happen anywhere. Doing whatever…not just in soul shape.
