The Case for Gnome Paladins

If you’ve been on the forums the past week or so, you may or may not remember that I made a case for Pandaren Death Knights. While I still firmly believe in that cause, there are other causes I firmly believe in as well, and today the cause I’d like to look towards are Gnome Paladins.

Why Gnomes? Simple: They’d be incredible. Besides that, it would fit in-game as well.

Gnomes are already capable of being priests both in-game and lore-wise, and they have been noted to have taken an interest in the Light as both a benevolent force and a possible upgrade to their technology.

So Gnome Paladins could have a lore base in either traditional paladinism (if that word exists), mecha-crusader-ism (that word definitely doesn’t exist), or both!

Would it work structurally, with the way classes are distributed to the Alliance? Yes! Currently, Gnomes are capable of being eight different classes. This is quite a few, but not the highest. The highest amount of classes available to Alliance races lie in Dwarves, who are capable of being 10.

As for role-structure, currently all but Worgen and Gnomes on the Alliance are capable of being three or more healer classes, and all but Worgen, Gnomes, and Pandaren are capable of being four tank classes. Allowing Gnomes to be Paladins would contribute towards evening both of the forementioned facts out!

As for their unique Paladin mount? Simple: light-infused C.R.U.S.A.D.E.-class Mechastriders!

So why not? Gnome Paladins would be incredible. The gnome community would surely be thrilled, and we could live in a world with tiny crusaders - A better world, to be sure.

Also, I’ve been wanting to play a Gnome Paladin for at least five or six years now. Please, I beg of you.

Doc cogspin was close to being a paladin (so it was a concept for cataclysm) and the developers had a gnome with ashbringer (even as a figure) so I can say there’s some ground. Might need to invent an interest for the developers to consider.

gnomes can not be paladins because they are too short to reach the light

I personally wouldnt play one but yea I support player choices and more race/class comboes. I would prefer no limits in them.

All racial restrictions are there for flavor to try to distinguish some differences between races

Practically it makes no sense.
Even in lore you find exceptions,
And it is akin to racism to say that even if a gnome was raised as an orphan in stormwind, spending all their time around paladins and eager to be one, that they just can’t “because they’re a gnome”.

If they can justify walking corpses gaining animal trust and affinity (forsaken hunters) and tribal nature shaman types being holy warriors (cow paladins)

Then I think all racial combinations should be possible

Considering the aspect of engineering and often use of guns, the missing hunter class for gnomes was ignored until legion. It’s difficult to understand the developer’s decisions.

Not a huge fan of gnomes, but I think it would be cool beans if they became Paladins.

I’m pretty sure some gnome priests, are of the light rather than just technology, also… a mech-pally a mix of Faith and Tech might be cool… much like the Ad-Mech.

You’re gonna have to come up with what C.R.U.S.A.D.E. actually stands for!

I had no idea Gnomes could be priests.

That’s my gripe with paladins, it’s been stated that the light answers to anyone with faith, Jesus, look at Sir Zeliek, an undead death knight that wields the light. LOL

Any race that has both Priest and Warrior as class options should have the option to be a Paladin as well, IMHO.
