So you want WoW do be an empty shell of what it used to be? That’s what makes it unique?
WoW isn’t doing anything that other games aren’t doing. In fact, most games are doing what WoW is doing, and arguably doing it better.
Perhaps instead of asking what purpose it serves to add new features to the game, you should be asking why you’re paying $15 a month for a game that gets progressively smaller and smaller with every new expansion, or why you’re paying $15 a month for a game where 80% of the world is useless and/or dead.
Lore wise that is incorrect, you just need to look at Silvermoon, Dalaran, Stormwind Mage district, The whole of Night Elf lore, to see that they live in houses. It is fine if your personal head cannon has magic sustaining their body but that is not lore.
Ok so building on my previous post, here’s a wacky idea…
Suggestion to the Devs- Go back into the Garrison database and add one more building option…
A player house.
Give it say, 3 upgrade levels. (optional) Start with a one room cabin like in Elwynn for alliance or one of those single room huts in the barrens for Horde.
Upgrade would make it maybe a two-room hut, then level 3 might be something like the
skinning trainer’s 2-level house just outside Goldshire. (I’m not sure where a good Horde equivalent might be…anyone have an idea about that?)
THEN maybe the garrison might actually feel like a home, and it probably wouldn’t take a whole lot of work to implement, since some or all of the building models may already be in game.
I think your idea has merit. I would like the ‘Player Home’, to be race/culture specific. My Vulpera might be ok living in an Orc Hut, but my Blood Elf…oh no.
At the end of WOD everyone’s house should have been moved outside SW or Org. Some expansion relevant content could be added and decorations and furnishings could have been added with professions.
Blizzard should be focusing on group content, everyone keeps focusing on solo content, this is an MMO, so instead of player housing (more solo content) instead add guild halls
I just gave a compromise, guild halls, that way guildmembers can work together and create and costimize their own hall, we should be making guilds more attractive and nessesary
I hate player housing and not a fan of playing house in an mmo when it is better to see people out in the world vs hiding in their house. Just like Garrisons.
Having said that, if the majority want it and can bring in more subs AND it isn’t forced/mandatory to progress then I am all for it. I don’t have to use it then and those who want to more power to them.
Now, if they added some perks to the housing like New World does with their trophy system then that would be pretty cool. What the trophy system in New World is you have to craft them then display in your house and they give you perks like increased gathering speed and things like that. I don’t want this for like dps/hps buffs or anything close to that but adding perks like crafting/gathering speed, increased mount/movement speed in the world and not in instances like raids/pvp/dungeons, and things like that then I think it would be pretty cool and may even partake in player housing.
“Yes sir I do. There could be a lot of money made from optional items that could be crafted in-game or purchased from the WoW store to customize player housing.”
“You said money!”
“Yes sir I did. Every profession could add hundreds of items. The WoW store could add hundreds of items.”
“That seems like a really difficult thing to add, how could we do this in an expansion?”
“Super Easy, Barely Inconvenient. You see sir we just add more levels to the Garrison and make it super easy for anyone to join it from anywhere in the game using a group hearth spell”
Not sure everyone gets the reference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDSOiiMaJTE
This doesn’t necessarily negate the argument at hand, however. To be honest with you, Blizzard could easily knock out two birds with one stone by adding both player housing and guild housing. FFXIV does this, where you either buy a house for yourself or buy a house for your guild.
Why not have both? Having guild halls are not going to make guilds more attractive and necessary to be honest. Now if Blizzard tied meaningful content and rewards to being in a guild that would help. Also not everyone enjoys being in a guild, so placing something like “housing” behind a guild would hurt the game more than it help it. It would breed resentment about being force to guild up to access a feature.
Blizzard could make housing something very fun if don’t right.
An MMO is not a solo game, we should move more and more towards classic style were to do anything you oretty much had to be in a guild, MMOs are multiplyer games, if peoole dont like multiplyer then they are playing the wrong type if game, guilds should be more and more a need for WoW
Do people hide in their house in FFXIV or ESO?
No?
It’s because there’s a right way to do it (optional content where people can just be creative and RP or show off their in-game trophies, or simply have a “piece” of the game that’s their own) vs a wrong way to do it (putting in AH, vendors, and crafting stations–y’know, like Garrisons did).
