Just talk to Mobber to access the D.R.I.V.E. to customize your vehicle, located at the Shipping and Handling headquarters. The Controlled Cruiser is unlocked the moment you unlock the G-99 Breakneck.
You’ll find the Controlled Cruiser travels at roughly half the speed of the starting engine (comparable to the speed of epic flying). If you find yourself getting motion sickness or having difficulty controlling the faster engines, this is a much more manageable speed, and you still have access to drifting and boosting.
yeah, this is what im using currently until i get savvy with the zone layout and better acquainted with the maneuverability of the car. really like that it was available as a base item from the get go, too.
I’ve just been using my mount, so far. I tried the car, but spent most the time just crashing into walls and junk on the ground even with the small engine.
I am not a fan of the D.R.I.V.E either, spent time trying to use it, even use the slower speed perk, it’s just frustrating, annoying, and makes me just not want anything to do with the new zone tbh.
Definitely liking the slower engine. Steady flight may be a bit too slow for my tastes compared to skyriding, but when I’m grounded that seems like a great speed for me to be moving at. There is absolutely not enough space on the roads for me with anything faster.
I skipped the tutorial and went the whole zone without knowing boost exists. It still felt too fast. The roads aren’t long enough to even justify going full speed. Both the speed and drift feel made for a zone with far more open space than this one.
The acceleration is also insane. hold w for a second and I rocket forward.
I gave D.R.I.V.E. a fair shake, and with the slow engine I definitely like it more than normal ground mounts. Don’t need to drift, don’t need to boost, and with the almost nonexistent aggro radius while driving it feels pretty good to get around with. Using a normal mount almost feels like walking on foot in comparison; it’s surprising how big a difference there is in speed even with the slowest engine.
Some advice as somebody who hated it at first: If you are like me and hold your right click constantly while moving to control your camera you can’t do that with DRIVE. Either use your movement keys without holding your mouse OR hold your right and left click and don’t touch your movement keys to control the car. Doing both feels really, really awful.
I legit just spent like over an hour last night speeding around and crashing into stuff then laughing about it, only negative is when you jump off somewhere high with car and take a bunch of fall damage but besides that I’m pretty golden.
It’s still way too fast for the tight spaces you have to work with. Would be nice to have a ground mount speed option and just let people accelerate it if they want to.
