This expansion is BORING. Seriously, how hard is it to pull another Legion?
Legion had a spectacular pre-patch event with Dreadlord players roaming the cities, big events across the world that made the threat feel imminent. Broken Shore was GOATED, and truly felt like a kickoff to an insane expansion. Class Halls, Artifacts, the Dungeons all made the story feel important. Helya, Xavius, Odyn, Ravencrest, all bosses that held prominence. The first raid was insane, EMERALD NIGHTMARE. Horrifying, frightening, cool stuff!
Now we come to THE BORE WITHIN. Pre-patch was a snoozefest that most people likely stopped doing after 10 minutes. Dalaran destruction was garbage, less than 5 minutes and we weren’t even there for the major “death” if he’s even dead. Probably going to be strapped up like Bolvar in the final raid of the expansion missing a hand. These zones are a SNOOZEFEST, Zaralek Caverns reskinned, Open Field #1000 for Dorn. The dungeons are even worse, nameless pointless and forgettable bosses. Seriously, you could throw every final boss of the dungeon into a random zone and you wouldn’t tell the difference. Nameless dwarf #120, Nameless human #590, Nameless Bug #469.
This expansion will have people AFK in the city in less than a month. If even that. Xala’tath cannot save this disaster. RIP TWW! Dragonflight 2 Electric Boogaloo!
My sympathy is limited. They have shown what to expect: an extremely cheap third dwarf recolor with a handful of long overdue QoL updates. The rest is the same as always. If you still buy the expansion, it’s your own fault.
The pre-event, even though it was boring, was fine in my opinion because it provided a quick way to level up alts.
You’re not happy with dwarfs we don’t know why we should care about? Then more humans we don’t know why we should care about? Then lastly spiders we don’t know why we should care about?
All that with new Sylvanas running around with her Mcguffin that we don’t know why we should care about?
I keep my expectations at zero with the current writers. They let the entire development team down. So if I keep my expectations at zero, I wont be disappointed. Rule of thumb, don’t buy EA. You’ll feel less cheated. This game isn’t what it used to be. In fact, they just recycle and reuse assets that were created by the real developers. The ones we have now are just copy and pasters.
This is why we’ll never receive a brand new game, such as WoW 2. They don’t have the skill or the know how to create something as good as what WoW used to be.
My issue is the earthen all talk like soulless robots… Makes the expansion feel soulless lol. I don’t know anything about the dungeons other than why we enter the rookery. The zones are nice but ATM I’m kind of rushing to 80 so will read the text and quests on the alt I lvl.
Kill things get exp and loot until cap, then you kill things and get loot so you can kill things to get more loot. This is and always has been the cycle of WoW. I don’t see how this is any more or less boring then any other expansion. The same gameplay loop exists. To me it sounds more like burnout then anything.
I got Black Myth Wukong and its been pretty fun so waiting for the regular WW launch. The money it would cost to upgrade to EA was about the same as buying another game for my collection it was $59.99 on Playstation store. It has some slow downs , but they were not that bothersome so far. It is time for WOW 2 I can only imagine how epic WoW could be with graphics like Wukong has on the Unreal engine.
The prepatch should have prepared us for what to expect, but yet somehow I was still disappointed. The storyline is unbelievably derivative and completely lacking in character or charm. I remember a single new character from the entire storyline and she basically acted as a conduit for the player to wield the doodad of power where necessary for the story to advance. I used to chuckle at people whining at Anduin being a boring whinger because it was fine as a story arc… but good god, he somehow got WORSE instead of better. The Anduin haters must be frothing at the mouth.
Some of the bosses in dungeons I literally did not have a clue they were bosses until they were at about 15% health. One of the dungeons literally just ended after we killed what I thought was a trash mob. That priest boss… she fell over and like… that was the end of the dungeon. I didn’t realise she was a boss.
Frankly, I don’t think much of this has anything to do with whether people will be playing in a month or a year, since what decides that is whether the repeatable content is fun enough to keep repeating, but holy crap on first impressions, it’s very near the bottom of the pile for me. The main story line is easily the shortest so far in any expansion but somehow I was still fighting to stay engaged halfway through the last zone.
Have you even played the beta? Just walking into Hallowfall is worth the money for the expansion and EA. You can’t call Blizzard out for not making anything new when they are pumping out a renissance of amazing zones.
