If you think about it, all the aspects are very corporate managerial types and neither Wrathion nor Sabellian are a good fit for standing around on a platform being NPCs. That’s what aspects do mainly except when they are acting like that in a questline. Ebyssian is perfect for it. When the aspects becoming too interesting, like Norzdormu, they are already in trouble.
This was kind of obvious.
Both Wrathion and Sabellian looked like a pair of bickering stooges, showing no true merit for leading their flight. While I think Ebonhorn is a boring choice he appears to be the only other option.
Immy we feel the same way and I think it’s because we’ve both been playing for wow’s entire tenure.
We did Sabellian’s quests in Outland™. We helped the Netherdrakes (I got exalted with them and enraged Zajiwa by not showing up to his Stormwind raid.) So, we’ve got history with this neato character that the vast majority of the rest of the playerbase doesn’t.
But really, Sabellian was the best choice. But anyone, even a Basic Campfire™ is a better choice than Wrathion.
I feel Ebyssian is the right choice. This allows Sebellion and Wrathion to keep doing what they do best without the obsidian throne as a manacle on their ankles.
That was my main thing. He wanted leadership, he’s shown leadership, he’s walked the walk and survived in Outland for years. Most of the sill living Black Dragons are still loyal to him and support him. Not to say they wouldn’t get along with or follow a Wrathion or Ebyssian given proper development, but our boy Sab had all his ducks in a row - even new eggs, and just needed a bit of a temperament as far as his connection to Neltharion goes and wanting to follow that legacy just not corrupted. It was all there! Maybe if we had another patch cycle or two, or even making it the last patch cycle, of choosing either Ebyssian or Sab as Earth Warder, giving them their aspect powerups, and just beating the snot out of -insert primalist here- would be so much better.
Wrathion, I am sorry, can kick rocks. He needs a ‘how to be a dragon’ training course. Especially for being like what - 15 years old?
He’s six. Devs have repeatedly mentioned it since df’s launch. Wrathion isn’t old enough to be aspect even if he hadn’t screwed up tbqafh.
He cant be six. He was born in Cataclysm and there’s a five year gap from the start of Shadowlands to the start of Dragonflight.
So taking into account the whole one year per expansion thing, Wrathion is at least ten or eleven.
Treng is still technically right by saying Wrathion is a kid. Experienced for his age sure, but a child none the less.
They changed the timescale.
The best possible choice. Ebyssian was the only one that could rally the two of them to work together and to lead them. He was correct about Neltharion’s legacy being poisoned from the start, and he was right about his brothers needing to learn the lessons that Abberus taught them.
That being said, I hope Ebyssian has a successor lined up as he’s probably gonna have to retire in his position as Ebonhorn.
When was this changed?
Just before DF was announced. Some expansions don’t even take up a full year anymore.
Is Nozdormu interesting? The idea of him is interesting sure, and when he was mysterious maybe, but currently the guy has absolutely no personality whatsoever.
The only personality he even has is being a fatalist which I’m sure is going to be fixed thanks to Chromie.
He will soon join the rest of the Aspects in having the pure corporate managerial type personality.
The other Characters with such pure corporate managerial type personalities are the Kirin Tor’s Council of Six, the Wild Gods, the August Celestials, the Titan Keepers, the Titans themselves(including Sargeras) and the Eternal Ones(including Zovaal).
Yeah the Aspects are honestly kind of a snooze fest as characters, they’ve got no edge or quirks to them whatsoever aside from the ones who went insane and got raid bossed. The Wild Gods sort of had personality, I mean I at least recall Aviana being fairly bloodthirsty.
Now that you mention it Denathrius of the Eternal Ones has personality as does Khadgar of the Kirin Tor and Kil’jaeden of the Burning Legion but everyone else in such omniscient councils of omniscience seem to lack personality.
The Old Gods are all lacking in personality having one distinct tone for each of them, same goes for the Dragon Aspects aside from Deathwing and Malygos, same for the Titan Keepers(not Titanic Watchers like Helya) except for Ra-Den, same for the August Celestials, same for Denathrius’s fellow Eternal Ones and the same for the Titans.
Here are the 5 tones for each of the 5 Old Gods:
C’Thun is Mysterious Calmness
Yogg-Saron is Mysterious Ominousness
Y’Shaarj is Evilness
G’huun is Old and Diseased
N’Zoth is Arrogance
The tones for the Eternal Ones aside from the charismatic Denathrius:
Archon: Paragon
Winter Queen: Wise Queen
Primus: Battle Tactician
Zovaal: Tyrannical Overlord
The Tones of the Titan Keepers:
Thorim, Hodir, Freya and Tyr: Viking Rulers
Odyn: Arrogant Viking Loudmouth
The Tones of the Titans:
Sargeras: Evil Overlord
Aman’Thul and Aggramar: Viking Ruler
Eonar: Wise Ruler
Argus: Pain! Pain!
I’m sure you get the picture.
Most successful storyline in DF thus far, made me go from thinking all the rooster of dragons was lame and boring to becoming my favorite dragon flight.
10/10
Honestly it is weird that he is still using his drake model from BFA. Would’ve expected him to have a fully grown dragon model, although scaled down a bit like Abwee’s was during WoD when he showed up in the revamped UBRS.
I just love how infighting apparently makes the black dragons unable to lead, yet the same infighting didn’t also invalidate both Kalecgos and Azuregos.
I wouldn’t be nearly as continually annoyed with this if Ebyssian had actually been a character for the entire expansion but he straight up disappears between the start of the expansion and 10.1. If they wanted to do this he should have been the middle man between Wrathion and Sabellian’s squabbling week to week.
Aberrus also wrings pretty hollow since Wrathion and Sabellian weren’t unaware that their Aspect was a psychopath so all this bull about a ‘poisoned legacy’ is really dumb.
Both did come off as arrogant enough to think they could make something positive out of that legacy, instead of letting it remain in the past as a lesson
