The Black Dragonflight Aspect is

The new leader of the Black Dragonflight is Ebyssian!

Note: The quest does require the Sarkareth kill quest up until he becomes available in LFR.

Ha.

I was right. Now they just need to give him and Merithra some new models because Light damnit.

I should really push the Valdrakkan renown so I can do her questline so she shows up there.

EDIT: Oh that’s cute. He made sure to keep Wrathion and Seballian as top ranking folk.

Big L. For real. A passive leader for the Black dragonflight. Big L for the story line

It was either going to be him or Wrathion and Sabellian sharing the role. Honestly, I think this works well enough, if all three of the brothers are working together in proper cohesion.

Ebyssian gets the Aspect power because he’s most resistant to corruption.

Wrathion acts as the Flight’s connection to mortals via his network of agents.

Sabellion acts as Majordomo due to his knowledge and experience organizing the Black Dragons.

Having one, singular Aspect as overall leader has been shown to be the downfall of the Flights each and every time. And the power of the Earth Aspect has the most risk attached to it, especially at full strength, due to the closeness to the Old Gods and their whispers. Obviously they need that power for the sake of their Flight, but that doesn’t mean the Aspect needs to be an absolute monarch.

Well, all criticisms aside, if I try to be positive-

at least there is some sort of Horde adjacent representation among the big cogs. Ebyssian is much less insufferable than the other choices.

However, I can see a future expac with Baine and Ebyssian sitting around while the Alliance biased Characters do the work.

But… it is something. At least a visage of a Horde aligned race is acknowledged as existing. One almost forgets the Horde exists if they just follow the narrative.

It’s a shame how Ebyssian feels almost, I dunno, carried into the position? He didn’t seem affected by whispers at all, which I don’t understand because Wrathion should be about as uncorrupted as he is, if done through different means. But we see both him and Sabellian affected while Ebyssian watches them set off all of the social / emotional boobytraps the story set up to make them look disqualified for the position.

I’ve seen him criticized as being a passive, “enlightened centrist” because of this, and it feels bad because I can’t exactly argue against that.

Ebyssian has been pulling tons of weight this patches storyline and baine got his own chapter in the main DF storyline stop being a baby oh my god

So glad Blizzard was smart about this and picked the best option. Ebyssian is the best pick from both a story and gameplay perspective. He’s the wisest and players don’t have to worry about having supported the wrong person. This is a relief.

It’s a shame they had to make it blatantly obvious with where the story was going for Ebyssian by making Sabellion and Wrathion look like insufferable bumbling idiots but I do quite like this choice. I’ve loved Ebyssian as a character since he was introduced back in Legion and I love that his visage is a Tauren.

It’s rare to see characters that I like these days so I’ll take it as a win. He has wholesome Dad energy and I like that.

Im not mad, just disappointed.

Was really hoping they’d set up Sabellion as the returning ruler with the entire Black Dragonflight behind him, eventually winning over Wrathion and Ebyssian.

Oh wow Blizzard acknowledged the Horde exists in a fairly neutral expansion for one patch… let me forget how Blizzard sidelined the Horde for all of Argus, relegated to a Muffin World Quest at most. Or how they get folded into Alliance Dominated Organizations like the Silver Hand, or the Ebon Blade led by Bolvar and Mograine, or the Cenarion Circle, or the Council of Dalaran….

As I said, I see it as a positive step. A baby step.

Blizzard takes baby steps in acknowledging the Horde has a role to play in neutral story lines. I commend them on their first baby step.

If memory serves well, wasn’t Ebyssian stuck at Highmountain because he could easily succumb to the Old God if he quit Highmountain?
A problem we had to solve in the Highmountain recruitment scenario.

I was really surprised to see that the writers forgot this in the Forbidden Reach as he claimed that he didn’t move because he is Neltharion’s offspring, and it brought me only shame.
It’s wrong because he couldn’t move from Highmountain even if he wanted to in the first place.

I have nothing against Ebyssian as the new Aspect but all of this is rushed!
He has done nothing of the level of Sabellian and Wrathion to justify being the next Aspect.

The only thing that the writers have done was to make it extremly obvious by disqualifying Sabellian and Wrathion with their behavior.

It needed at least one more patch to properly develop Ebyssian as a possible candidate for being the next Aspect if you ask me.
Hell he didn’t even participate in the raid, only coming after his brothers have done the dirty work.

No really, i am disappointed about how they handled the final of this Black Dragonflight storyline: Rushed.

Thank you! This is the first comment I’ve seen anywhere that mentions that Ebyssian specifically didn’t leave (per Legion story/lore) Highmountain because he feared the corruption. Ebyssian is also scared of the corruption (and iirc, affected by it?) in BfA, during the N’zoth content.

I am also incredibly disappointed. This isn’t the best choice, this is a rushed choice that really diminishes all of the build up story-wise leading to it. And I LIKE Ebyssian, I really do! But he’s the perfect person writing and character-experience-wise to be Majordomo, especially if Wrathion were aspect. They’ve worked closely before during the N’zoth stuff, and Ebyssian could advise and temper Wrathion’s remaining impetuousness.

I could even see the story leading to Sabellian as aspect, with Ebyssian as majordomo, and Wrathion angry and planning to overthrow Sabellian (even with an implication it would be centuries from now). But Ebyssian did NOT get the writing or lead-up to put him in this position, and it feels really, really bad to see him shoehorned in at the last minute. Especially with HOW they did it. I’m doubly upset by how Wrathion is bowing out at the final hour instead of seeing his flaws as something he can overcome and becoming more determined (as he has previously).

Idk, I see that as wisdom.

3 folk knew they would be driven insane by their heritage.

One named Ebyssian chose to remain safe until the much ballyhooed mortals cleared the way. He could have left the safety of Highmountain - but he would have been corrupted.

One named Sabellian has seen much of what their legacy can do, and he took command of those who were far off in Outland. Returning at an opportune moment.

One named Wrathion… dove face first into mortal affairs, with mixed results. Freeing Garrosh, causing WoD and Legion, finally lending a hand to wipe his mess at the end of BfA… Hardly an example.

They have different approaches, but I think Ebyssian so far has proven the wisest.

It can also be seen as cowardice. Which is basically just a difference of point of view, both arguments are valid. But I could reword this as:

One named Ebyssian hid and waited for someone else to fix his problem until he couldn’t hide anymore.

One named Sabellian stayed away from the issue until someone else solved it for him.

One named Wrathion risked his sanity and his life to fix the issue himself.

The ability to argue both sides on that is why I’m mostly sticking to how hollow and rushed this choice feels. Instead of following all of the lead-up and story impact they’ve had up til now with decent follow-through, they just grabbed the third, least-involved guy and didn’t stick to the choice they presented. And it doesn’t feel good.

So because there are different opinions, it seems rushed? You would prefer having your hand held to an opinion? I think things are better as they are.

There is a single story to be told. This is not a single player RPG. There is a shared canon.

Most everyone knew that BfA was just MoP 2.0, with a cruel Warchief being tossed. Choosing Dourfang and his Alliance were the broadcast choice from Blizzard - that was not fun for everyone.

So Blizzard gave us an all but meaningless choice to reject Sadfang and his acolyte, Zekhan. I appreciate that. I am glad that my “collections” tab is not disgraced with the disgusting rags of Saurfang.

The traitor side even got an extra toy to win then over. Those of us who refused the Alliance and their puppet Saurfang will always be one toy short of those who took the path Blizzard broadcasted for us.

The story will go one way, but at least Blizzard gave folks a chance to register their Sabe/Wrathy goon squad votes.

So because there are different opinions, it seems rushed?

Lol no, I literally just said that BECAUSE both can be argued, I am basing my dislike on OTHER factors. Seeing Ebyssian as wise or as a coward is a personal preference. Blizzard giving us a lot of lead up for one of two options and then rushing away from it to choose a third person for the job is a separate issue of poor writing imo, and that’s what I’m focusing on when talking about my disappointment.

It seems par for the course. Blizzard has a path, and they allow for some sort of “flavor” choices along the way. Which I think is good.

I prefer having varied opinions built up, instead of some disgusting path we must all agree on at every step.

Absolutely! However, I feel like the path they seem to have chosen (Ebyssian as aspect) is a very poor choice writing-wise, given they built up every option EXCEPT him. If they had worked more on him before doing so it might have been better. I honestly have a faint hope that they reconsider, and this is a PTR red herring.
