The bittersweet return, and the mournful farewell

It’s kind of sad. Six years ago, I moved from my original home; lost all internet access due to moving to a place just a short ways away from the local internet company’s coverage area. I was heavy into WoW at that time, and was in three separate guilds - The Jadepaw Dynasty, Stormwind University, and The Steelpaw Shaodin. I tried to keep contact, but… I lost it after some point.

So here I am, six years later; I got internet, I got a job, and I can finally enjoy time with all my friends again. At least, that’s what I thought… Logging on my original main (Torikushi), I found I was guildless. Heart sank like a rock, seeing that. No posts in the old guild website, either. Logged on Rosenade; she was guildless as well. I can only assume that my Steelpaw character is going to be guildless, as well.

So it’s kind of sad. I came back, hoping to be given a welcome from old friends, and maybe get caught up to speed on everything I missed out on. Instead, I got an empty feeling of loneliness - the same feeling I had when I originally started and hadn’t gotten my hands in the RP scene yet.

I’m hoping that I can get back into it. Hoping I can get all my old characters into new guilds, hoping I can get the new characters established, and make new friends… But my heart is going to forever have three holes in it, that belong to friends long gone.

Grief is the cost of love, hey? I feel you, and also miss old WoW friends as much, or more, than some of the RL friends I left behind when I moved countries. And I hope like me, you find some new people in DF – I have, and it’s been great!

The patch should increase activity and is coming soon! The game is in a bit of a lull at the moment – should be poppin’ when 10.2 drops, especially if the Blizzcon announcements are hype

6 years is a long time, sadly. A lot can change in that time. I feel your pain. Literally all of my earliest RP friends from the MoP/WoD era either no longer play or have moved to Moon Guard. The guilds I have been most actively a part of are more or less defunct. I still have friends from the late-Legion/BFA era when I switched to maining Horde due to timezone constraints, but only a handful. It’s a shame, but the road goes ever on and on, and sometimes people leave it along the way.

I sincerely hope you have some luck finding and building new communities, and connecting with old friends, wherever they have found themselves to be!

Eh, it ain’t great, huh? I mean some of us gotta stick around ta keep the lights on but that don’t make it no easier when ya come back and only the janitor’s around. People are in and out, once ya get useta it it’s easier ta manage.

GoF is always recruitin’ but yeah, we don’t do nuthin’.

OK, I don’t do nuthin’, rest of the guild is pushin’ keys. I mostly just dig up rocks.

To be fair, it was 6 years. Guild boot inactive players all the time. Also, in truth, time changes everything. I don’t have the same experiences in WoW I did 6 years ago: I have new ones. Be welcome to change

As said already, 6 years is a long time to be away especially if you didn’t play at all during that period. I’m basically in the same boat with you as I haven’t had much reason to be around since 2015 when I shut my guild down to focus on real life. Barely any of the people I played with back in those days are still around and my character has changed completely so I’m basically incognito at this point.

I feel that, I am still struggling to find a guild for myself after all this time. I actually was a part of the Jadepaw Dynasty, your name sounds vaguely familiar, for when it fell apart (not on this toon but various other ones) but, it was mostly due to the Hong Kong incident and the law suits that made Lia and the other officers threw in the towel.

Steelpaw transformed into a different guild although I don’t know much of their story.

Regardless I understand your sense of loss. I’ve been in a state of limbo for trying to find a guild since late BFA and at least one of those guilds has definitely left a hole in my heart as well. I wish you luck in your new adventures, it can be rough sometimes but, hopefully we can all find a group to call our internet home.

Hong Kong incident…?

Yeah, I was the Pandaren Warrior who wore purple armor a lot. Purple pigtails, seemingly had no life beyond WoW RP. IC name Torikushi Lulamoon.

The moment where Blizzard punished Blitzchung (Streamer?) for mentioning Free Hong Kong during the competition.

And ye! You’re familiar I think we rped once or twice, I was on my main priest Baoran at the time.

Good times, good times. Gonna miss 'em.

I am actually sad to hear about Jadepaw. I didn’t know about what happened. I certainly understand their reasons though.

So I don’t really kick inactives so you “may” still be there.

Though Steelpaw Shaodin isn’t around anymore. I renamed the guild to -Battleforged- awhile ago when some friends wanted to focus on like old school Horde/RPPVP.

Not much of a story to tell. A lot of us, myself included, just wanted to move on from strictly Pandaren centric RP. Had been doing it for 10 years straight in some form or another and I just didn’t have any motivation to tell stories within the Steelpaw concept.

Yea’ it was a shame, I do know that the remaining officer merged the guild with another guild however, I haven’t heard if they are doing events etc.

Which is totally valid! Ya’ll were always nice when we interacted, I was on my character Haofang, and did a nice service for the pandaren community with the pandaren summits. I hope ya’ll have a lot of fun pvping! If you need a healer/dps let me know, I also love to PvP

I loved all of the different Pandaren guilds from back in the day. Some of them I even remember from when we played on Emerald Dream. I was in Orchid Hollow over there back then.

I hope one day another guild would return but, for now I’ll just be happy as long as the wyrmrest community is happy/healthy

I feel this big time, similar story here, moved out of town, 20mins from one major city and 40mins from another, vague promises of “Internet soon”. Used satellite internet until fiber came our way 14 years later. Of course during this time I didn’t play WoW, in internet time even being gone a few years is a lifetime. I decided to start fresh and not chase the past.

:frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

The period when Jadepaw, Steelpaw, Topaz Tigers, Blazing Palm Clan, Pandaren Empire all co-existed was peak RP for me. Different flavors of Pandaren culture and characters, all interacting, doing events, rivalries, etc.

While I didn’t roll a Pandaren, the community of those who did was huge and it brought that whole expac to life and it lasted for a number of years after MOP.

I was legit disappointed when the Pandaren stopped hanging out near the SW Mage Tower.

Really, it’d be awesome if we could somehow bring it all back. But that’s just a guy’s wishful thinking, being all misty-eyed for his somewhat-recent past.

I honestly don’t know if we have a pandaren population that is available for another pandaren centric guild. I know I tried making a pandaren guild at some point but lost confidence in doing so. I am hoping that with the next patch and blizzcon there might be some more inspiration for RP. But we shall see
