The best DoT class

So i’ve geared both a shadow priest and a affli lock to 205 ilvl (low but good enough) and all i can say is that shadow priests feel like an overall more complete class than affli. Affli feels extremely clunky and unrewarding to play.

The next time someone asks me to recommend a ranged DoT class i’m telling them shadow priest. Old affliction (that had soul swap) was clean and fluid. This affliction that has MR, is just not that good.

I’ve leveled every class to 60 now, ive completed the game

Careful with this recommendation.

Affliction is better in raid, and spriest and affliction are both pretty crap in m+. The only reason people use us is for PI in high keys.

Shadow definitely feels better to play, but in terms of raw numbers, both specs are very similar.

I can’t say I even consider affliction a dot class anymore. Our dot’s do little to no damage. If anything affliction lock is closer to a sub rogue rather then a shadow priest.

Shadow feels great to play, although I think it’s a bit more focused on the nukes than the DoTs at this point.

I thought my 7 60s were bad enough.

spriest is in a similar place. I’d much prefer the spec to operate much more heavily on the dots for damage.

Funnily enough, the spec that does the most actual DoT damage might well be Boomkin these days.

Isn’t your heavy hitter spender a dot? Forgot the exact name

Yeah who knew standing in the sun for too long did that much dps

Play feral. Then go moonkin.

Agreed I’d prefer if our spec’s damage focused more on DoTs

You and I seem to be using different definitions of ‘crap’.

Over long fights, yes. Devouring Plague accounts for our largest portion of damage done.

The other two are comparatively weak.

Shadow word pain does less damage than shadow apparitions, which is a passive from casting DP or mind blast.

Affliction doesn’t even feel like a dot class, it’s more Like stacking debuffs to spam Malefic raptures.

Anyone who thinks Afflic is in a good place right now did not play it in BFA. First thing I said when I saw rapture being added was “oh god here we go again”. Since it’s literally just UA stacking all over again, it just aoes now.

But of course, the resource requirement on DP means that it’s not a super multi-dotting tool because it’s got limited ability to be cast over and over again.

Mhmm, it’s the exact same as BFA UA stacking.

Which is more than acceptable. I really like the way our single target spender works.

What I don’t like is how weak we are in cleave situations due to weak dots.

Basically yeah, back when afflic was basically just copy pasting legion demo burst

Even Legion demo was fun since you summoned cool sh!t. Now I just have a floating eyeball which extends my dots and one spell that does 80% of my total damage. FUN
