The Battle for Gilneas Quest Is Broken

The Battle for Gilneas quest in the Worgen Zone is completely broken. Once the quest begins, it works as intended - until Prince Liam Greymane crosses the bridge and gets into the city. The Gilnean Militia NPCs, along with Liam, start to stall. Liam doesn't attack any enemies; instead he just sits there, not moving at all. After about 5 minutes of nothing, he will either teleport to the next point of engagement, or start moving slowly towards it.

Players are able to kill off the surrounding enemies just fine, but again, Liam does nothing, and does not move once he gets to a point of engagement. The farthest point I have seen him get to (and he doesn't always get this far), is to the part where we fight the giant abomination mini-boss.

The internal timer for the quest/scenario will eventually just time out due to Prince Liam Greymane's stalling. When this happens, any player that was trying to complete it is automatically teleported out back to the bridge, back to the beginning, and the whole thing resets itself. Nobody can progress past this quest.

A side note - the entire zone is also extremely laggy, for everyone.

it's beyond that.. The entire area is bugged.. Rescuing the guy from the tree, the horse will move sometimes and it will sometimes die before reaching the end, causing the player to have to abandon and restart the quest.

Later, having to draw the 30 worgen, the horse will move erratically or not at all, and will sometimes die if the player doesn't manually try to move it to the right place, causing the player to have to die and abandon/reset the quest.

When the land falls, later, and the player has to rescue the drowning defenders, the player must grab from deep within the zone, else the interaction is marked as invalid. After the player finally grabs one, they then have to find a particular spot on shore else the timer will run out and the player will lose that sailor.

Well hopefully this post keeps getting bumped up, so Blizzard will see it. People just need to keep commenting here to keep it relevant.

In light of the Worgen getting updated models in 8.2.5, I think Worgen starting zone issues need to be a bigger priority to account for players starting new Worgen characters in light of the announced model updates.

It’s still broken. Liam just refuses to move after he gets into the city. Either that, or he teleports and then stops responding in the new spot.

6-7 people and myself tried running this 5-6 times last night, but always ended up timing out and getting reset to the beginning.

It can’t be completed at this point, and we are all stuck there. It’s beyond frustrating.

Still broken. I was trying to get a friend of mine into World of Warcraft and I kept telling them “don’t worry, it’ll get better once we leave the Worgen starting zone”. We get to The Battle for Gilneas City. But we can’t get past Sylvannas, and he’s completely given up playing at all now. I feel like a fool.

Sylvannas runs out of health, does the knockback thing, then…nothing. After a few minutes, it will reset and throw us out of town, and start the whole thing over again.

When fighting Sylvanus, just watch, don’t fight.

If the green circle from the sword touches her, it keeps her alive until the script times out.

Try getting anyone to listen to you. 8 attempts and every time someone doesn’t listen and attacks her.

I’m not trying to Necro a thread, but this is still an issue, two friends playing, one completed i have no clue how, the other has tried 3-4 times now and it just keeps resetting and never getting all the way through the city.

Very very broken. Tried it today. First time playimg WoW since BC and wanted to play a Wargen. Had no idea it was impossible. Thanks. This was a huge waste of time.

They need to remove that quest from the Worgen starting area.

Thing has been buggy ever since they first implemented it.

More like they need to revamp the Worgen starting zone. The whole thing is full of bugs, generally stemming from the fact that a lot of it is based on the first versions of zone phasing they ever did. I think it’s possible that some of the bugs relating to NPC pathing may even be caused by incompatibilities between new and old phasing code, as well as changes regarding the code behind zones in general.

The quests would probably be better if they were updated to take advantage of the improvements to quests and phasing from more recent expansions. It might be a lot of work to update the code behind the quests, though.

2 and a half months after the last post, this area/zone is still busted. Specifically, the quest mentioned above. Would love to see blizzard actually do something about a problem the community has been mentioning since October of last year.

This is idiotic. Just sat for 20 minutes waiting in vane for an AFK player (who’s attacking Sylvanas) to return so we could finish the damn quest. Don’t know if it’s going to help, but I’m submitting a bug report. I know…useless to let Blizz know.

I am having issues with this quest. It tells you to talk to a guy to start this quest and hes no where to be found. I dont know if the other issues have been solved because i cant even get that far. Please help!

Still bugged!

This quest is STILL bugged! Come on, are you serious?! Krennan isn’t available to talk to now, if it isn’t one problem it’s another one… Tried /reload, tried restarting the game, un-installed addons/re-installed addons. Nothing works.
