The Audacity

Well of course, no fortification is impenetrable. However, the stone wall is stronger than the wooden palisade.

yeah all you can really do is just hop on a vpn, spoof or change your mac address and don’t do anything on the internet that would make a mob get at you. It’s best to just browse anonymously and keep thoughts to yourself, or at least I think this is probably the best course of action in my experience.

You don’t really need a vpn specifically for WoW, correct me if I’m wrong, but there is no way to see some ones IP address simply from interacting with them on WoW?

Yeah but when you have a stone wall against black gun powder, well, there is a reason castles are obsolete.

Taking other constraints into consideration of any political favoritism w/ law, it is not favorable.

If you’re being Doxed, the Government can access and find you with any VPN or Black net search engines like Tor.

They don’t have to “access” your account is what i’m saying.

They could, they may try hacking you. But ultimately they can do far more damage with a lot less effort.

I use a VPN and Tor, but the FBI showed up to my door on the 7th over a friend who got arrested a year ago.

Bare in mind nothing has happened since, but they found info on me from almost 13 years ago from accounts that were deleted.

So with that in mind, and all that info, I would take this threat exceptionally serious and it isn’t a war with weapons, but information.

I don’t believe so, but maybe you could write a script that could ping characters in an arena, for example and see what that does. I’m new to coding and generally don’t have much knowledge about cyber sec but I imagine it to be something similar to a network host list that shows who is connected. probably not, most likely wrong.

your guild name is [Afterlife] - right ?

it’s a pretty common name.

and…it’s really funny that someone is telling jokes or bad things to you/friends about a guild name…

I’ll be honest, it’s quite childish, either pissing someone off for it or caring about someone pissing you off in an online game.

The best thing to do is to block the person (s) and do something else.

it would also be interesting to install an ADDON called “hide chat” - it is a button that will literally minimize your chat. If you need to speak to your guild, press G and speak through the guild hall. Or, mainly, via discord.

Other than that, caring about people telling you bad things in an online game only shows how peaceful your life is to the point of caring about something so trivial. Do you work ? do you have to pay bills? How old are you ? answer for yourself, there are certain things that are so silly that it’s literally a joke.

And this is not just for you, but for them too, who are pissing you off with it.

Imagine blizzard having to deal with someone who is saying bad things to other people because of a guild name, a name that is not even that important or bad.

Does this seem crazy to you?

At least, I hope that was a joke from the Office.

Afterlife is this character’s guild, but it’s not my mains guild, that’s the one having problems. Unfortunately I can’t disclose the name, but I will say, the so called bad things people have been saying, are quite threatening, to the point of near illegality.

Honestly man, Take it serious. I wouldn’t play with fire.

I have 2 speeding tickets and people showed up at my door simply based on an association.

With the bias in the system, and prior events, it won’t take much.

It’s a ruby ridge scenario.

but the answer remains the same - block the person (s), hide the chat, speak via the guild window or discord, ignore this idiots, don’t worry about it and understand that there are things that are soooo much more serious. No matter what they say, what they have to attack you are words…in an online game.

It’s still childish for both sides to care about it.

Just report them. They aren’t using WoW to get your personal information.

If you let WoW losers get to you, that makes life that much harder too, bud. Just report them and laugh.

honestly if it’s bad enough, blocking won’t do much.

Do you actually think the threatening 30 something neckbeards who still live with mommy are going to do something IRL? Between their job at the pizza parlor and 16-18 hours of wow they play daily, I just don’t see how they could do much else.

Yeah until the Government shows up and takes the accusers side against him, and because of his opinions, is essentially the witch in a witch hunt.

bad enough?

“oh, someone is telling me bad jokes because the name of my guild … they will search my character’s name on Facebook trying to find me”

“oh no, they said my guild’s name is this or that, they said that I am this or that, they said they’re going to do something with me”

If they did, it’s because you have the person unblocked. There is even an addon to block whispers.

and sincerely …

I use a VPN and Tor, but the FBI showed up to my door on the 7th over a friend who got arrested a year ago.

this FBI story … they would only go after you if you were doing something terrible, if you used VPN and TOR, there is a giant reason to be suspicious of you. So … don’t compare the bull*hit you look on the internet with someone talking nonsense in an online game.

Put down the Trump manifesto, be more receptive.

and I was thinking, depending on the name of the guild, if it is a guild with a Na-zi name for example … I believe you do deserve to hear some things hahahaha

Not true Aalmatath.

The Police and FBI can show up for any reason, they wanted me to be an informant.

The assumption that you had to have done something wrong is the lie they use to interrogate people. It’s a psychology trick. If that were the case, why would any one need an attorney?

I’m former military, I have a clean record, and hadn’t left the house due to lock down. What “bad” did i do other than staying home and playing WoW Plus college? Lol.
