The amount of Hunters

Wow so when I logged in for SL yesterday I was amazed at the shear numbers of hunters. I have always loved my Hunter and hoping to finally get into M+ now that I have a decent PC. But man the amount of Hunters was kinda disheartening a bit. Anyone else notice this or just me?

Because it’s the best pet class.

BM and Survival are fun specs with strong pets.

Demo Warlock is left to the wayside.

If you want fun pets, a fun class then Hunter is the best. It’s going to be overplayed.

I noticed too - probably saw about a dozen by the rime I entered Bastion.

I didn’t realize they’d be so popular when I rolled one lol. I say the more the merrier

It has been a long time since all 3 specs of Hunter have been in a spot where someone enjoys them. Not that everyone loves all 3 but their are people that really like that one or two specs that just fits their interest. I expect BC and Cata levels of Hunter representation in terms of characters played.

Yea I understand that. I mained a Hunter from Vanilla to WoTLK. Took a break from Wotlk to BFA lol. Created a Horde Hunter and went back to it lol. The amount that I saw last night kinda bums me out a bit tho if I am being honest. I actually wanted to go in as Demo but man it seems terrible to me now.

Omg.

Another Subliminal Nerf Hunter’s post…
give up already ppl, play what you like instead,
Live and Let Live…

It’s the easiest class to play. BM you just let your pet do all the damage and you profit. People want to see easy big numbers and high dps. Best class for casuals and Blizz wants to cater to casuals that’s why either MM or BM is usually top tier.

What happened was the nerfed demon hunters and buffed marks hunters so all the fotm rerolls jumped on the marks is OP bandwagon

Don’t forget the appeal of having a customizable pet or two to fight alongside

You’re not unique and/or special. The earlier you learn this the better.

Recently swapped from Boomkin to MM Hunter since Boomkin’s boom seems that have just went away.

a lot of instant casts, lots of mobility, usually at least one spec is at the top of the dps, you move fast in general and you can choose to have pets or not.

Hunter is an easy choice. I usually main a mage for the conveniences, but I think I’m going to main my hunter this expansion.

“Its the easiest class to play”
I dont get that. All i hear is everyone talking crap about hunters being easy to play while literally every other class is as simple to play. Press the buttons you need or press the buttons which start blinking and magic happens, you’re playing the class you’re on! It’s amazing, i know.

“BM you just let your pet do all the damage and you profit”
Imagine a pet class deal damage with its pets, oh my.
How about “As arms warrior you’re just dealing damage with your two-hand weapon and you profit” ?
Every class in WoW is simple in its core and it gets annoying to read “But Hunter…HurrDurr!”

Take the post with a hint of sarcasm.

To be fair, for leveling and world content, Hunters have a ton of tools to get out of tricky situations, making them a great character to level, over and above what other classes offer. They have what Bellular calls “Hunter Bull****”. Basically just that the Hunter utility kit is sufficiently strong and diverse that there really is nothing you can’t handle, at least enough to survive and get away clean, in terms of soloing.

When you consider group content we are much more in line with the support classes, but in the open world, a Hunter is a host unto himself.

Of all my chars with all my specs(and this is a LOT): None are that hard, all can solo. That said:

Easiest to play are my Fury Warrior and my Guardian Druid. Both are boiled down to pretty much the same 3 buttons for 95% optimal play in almost any situation. Yay macros.

The fastest soloer is my Havoc DH, no where the power of Legion but still wrecks things.

The quickest invite for any kind of group content anywhere is my Resto Druid.

Most buttons to press for any given situation is my Hunter on any spec.

Easiest to solo PvE big bads is the BM hunter with a Clefthoof or Core Hound.

Least fun solo is my arcane Mage. Heck Frost isn’t that much better.

My Fire Mage is the most fun group DPS. Insta pyroblasts with chain fireblasts on no GCD with buffed crit. Strong AE too. Oh its fun.

My Sin Rog, and MM Hunter are the most fun in WM or BG PVP, though Veng DH and Arms/Fury War can be fun here too in the right situation.

Least fun is my Ret and Holy paly. Prot Paly is fun with the shield though.

DK is not a standout anywhere.

Hunter and Demon Hunter feel like the only 2 classes that are fun to play: that is, a class not bogged down by complex and cumbersome mechanical systems and resource systems. What they have feels intuitive and works well.

Thematically I like many other classes, but they just aren’t fun to play, period.

None of my used attacks use a resource. I only use resource for an armor buff and self healing. Moonfire is a resource free instant range for pulling. All of my other attacks, and my armor buff (barkskin - no gcd) are macro’d to a single button (used both AE and single target).

With that I get to be an invincible Hulk Bear. I’ll get instant queues for dungeons. I can flatten quest mobs by the pack, in Warmode, while ignoring the Rogue scratching my back. I get to move fast in the Maw.

How is Hunter any easier?

I didn’t say easier. I said more intuitive, less cumbersome, and above all - fun. On a Hunter or Demon Hunter I don’t count and recount things constantly, watch UX elements for state changes (outside of ability cooldowns), or manage abilities simply to manage my resources. I just play, and it works and feels rewarding. That is the point. You’re seeing a lot of Hunters because they are fun.

Pretty sure all these new hunter “mains” won’t last long.

What will happen is:
A few months down the road, the vast swarm of DH/Destro Lock/whatever easy BFA S4 fotm rerolls to Marksman will park their “main” after inevitable MM nerfs. And the swarm of BM hunter casuals who are dabbling because some cringe m+ Youtuber/Twitch streamer (pick from a hefty number of them all lol) did a tier list on easiest/best ranged class for beginning M+ and raiding…will only quit a few months later and world quest on their “fun” class. Many of the MM raiders will also quit once the inevitable nerfs happen… or they will switch back to BM because timing raid mechanics with cooldowns and casted Aimed Shots will prove to be too hard, or more importantly, too much effort. So I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

I guess I’m confused about why the OP is upset that there are so many of us. Why is this a bad thing? The more, the merrier!

Moving on, but basically to echo what many others have said, playing Hunter is fun. It doesn’t take ten years to kill the trash, you can keep up with a fast tank in a dungeon because of all the instant casts (something that made warlock impossibly frustrating for me) but it’s not too easy either; you have to manage cooldowns and focus and decide what to cast and when. So yeah, it’s not just button mashing, but it doesn’t take an encyclopaedic knowledge of the class either (something that surely appeals to new players as well).
