Kael’thas IS the blood elves. He is the hero they chose in Hots not Lor’themar.
And it’s still weird and creepy as hell.
He’s literally not. Lorth’emar has done more to keep the blood elves thriving and safe than anyone else
He is a boring archer without any unique traits or iconic clothes. He is forgettable and powerless.
Blizz clearly disagrees with your piss poor assessment
He has a bow and a sword. Even Halduron could beat him in a fair fight due to ruined deep vision with just one eye.
Okay?
All the famous blood elves are literally rangers.
Rommath, Tae’thelan, Astalor, Liadrin, Solanar, Halduron, Lor’themar and Aethas. 2 are rangers 4 are mages and 2 are paladins.
4 are rangers.
The Windrunner Sisters alone got more screen time over the years than most of the people on your little list
Those are HIGH elves not blood elves.
Look at this and tell me this isn’t cool.

They’re literally the same race. The names are just political
Kael sucks and overrated and I’m not changing my mind on it
You can have that opinion of course no judgement. I just think he was cool while he lasted. I hope he comes back. Somehow. Same as Sylvanas.
I don’t begrudge people who do like/love him. I do get the appeal of the character. He just doesn’t appeal to me personally
For example, I love Genn, but I also know there are people who hate/dislike the character and that’s fine too.
No hard feelings I hope ![]()
Scout Captain Elsia in Mists is the second most important Sunreaver and actually the main questgiver too, iirc and she’s basically red Vereesa.
I admit I had forgotten about her ![]()
Well, every word on the topic suggests a blood elf migration to Outland would’ve ended in disaster, not least of all Kael’s own word, so maybe “we have no idea” was the wrong turn of phrase there. Taken altogether, it’s pretty clear Kael’thas was a pantser until Kil’jaeden gave him a plot.
I’ve nothing but love for Outland. I’m sure there are more stories to tell with its races. I just don’t think “space fantasy elves” was ever seriously entertained as the BEs’ endgame beyond TFT, or that such a direction would’ve benefited them much in WoW. That Outland didn’t ultimately jive with the blood elves doesn’t mean I want it to disappear.
Hell, even Aegwynn and Nielas Aran is a bit uncomfortable. Whether it was the old lore (they had a one night stand and 9 months later Nielas finds a baby Medivh on his doorstep) or the new lore (enemies to lovers).
In either version Aegwynn is over 1000 years old.
Kael’thas’ army was shrinking hard when the Scryers defected.
I really think you’re overinflating this. I can point to examples of Blood Elf npcs saying Quel’thalas is irrevocably damaged and cant be fixed. One quest giver even gives up trying to fix the dead scar and wonders if the blood elves can find a better destiny on Outland. The game sent us mixed messages on this throughout TBC. I think we can agree on that.
My point is that,
- This is a thread about how Amani could join the Horde
- I don’t think they can do so in a way that feels fair without them getting their ancestral land or coming up with some kind of radical solution
- I suggested a radical solution, and also tied that into the idea of giving Outland more love, and remembeing the blood elves’ association with it. The Scryers still live there for some reason, after all. If it’s truly doomed, why haven’t the Aldor abandoned it and moved to the Exodar?
I just think it would have been a more elegeant solution to follow through on the original plan to move the bulk of the Blood Elves to Outland, instead of the writers fixing the Sunwell and, essentially, reverting blood elves to traditional high elves and removing their core conflict as a race. Consequently, this also left the Amani in limbo, which is why I bring this up in the first place. I get that it’s a wild solution, but you don’t have to downplay the association the Blood Elves have with Outland.
Hell, TBC baits the Blood Elf player along with the idea of “making it to Outland” to find their destiny. The writers definitely instilled a fondness for Outland in a lot of Blood Elf players, myself included. It makes total sense why some of us might want a continued association with Outland.
Wouldn’t the Blood Elves establishing a kingdom in Outland involve colonizing native savages, though? Outland wasn’t uninhabited.
I’m SO glad you asked!
See, this is where Blizzard’s writing choices come in.
They could have portrayed this more like when the Orcs came to Kalimdor. Remember Illidan united the Fel Orcs under him, and from what little we see from their dialogue they seemed mostly loyal to him.
Outland is massively depopulated so it’s not like the remaining Orcs could inhabit all that remains even if they wanted to. The Blood Elf population is incredibly small, and they could reverse engineer the naaru tech from Tempest Keep to create floating cities for themselves. They wouldn’t take up that much space off the coast of Netherstorm and Shadowmoon.
Most of the issues start when Blizzard decided to villain bat the entire leadership of Illidan’s faction, and we’re still living with the consequences.
