The Altcraft Project is a community that revolves around constructing and discussing alternate Warcraft timelines.
While there are many of those, there is a focus around one particular timeline which has been worked on for the last 3 years extensively, mainly by the duo Zenmaster and Ethenil. This one mainly diverges with the ending of Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.
There are some main features that this Altcraft Project focuses on:
-
The separation of the forsaken and the night elves as their own independent factions, to never affiliate with either the Alliance or the Horde. The Sentinels and the Forsaken have their own faction names as the Emerald Concord and the Ashen Covenant. Both of them have many allied races. Night elves are allied to furblogs, wildkin, children of cenarius, dragonkin and worgen. The Forsaken are allied to many undead races, like the undead nerubians, or the undead orcs, trolls and ogres risen from the bodies of the fallen during the Second War.
-
The extension of both the size of the world and the size of the timeline. Azeroth is supposed to be the size of Africa and Eurasia, while Draenor is supposed to be the size of the Americas. Expansions last for at the very least 3 years, while the time gap between the end of the Third War and the events of Classic WoW is that of at least 12 years. This last change for example allows for the orcs of Durotar to bring forth a new generation of orcs, since their race reaches full maturity at 12. This explains their numbers.
-
The maintaining of consistency, while also trying to eliminate as little as possible from the world of Azeroth we already know. It is imperative that we maintain the same characters most people fell in love with while doing our best to be respectful to what they are, and what people would have loved to have them as. Kael’thas and Lady Vashj are not slain, Garrosh becomes an honorable warchief with an honorable end, and more.
