The "AFK & Alt Tab" generation is ruining Classic

The “AFK & Alt-Tab” generation of gamers come from Retail.

They are a generation of people who love being AFK and queuing into RDF/LFR, they love not interacting with the world, they don’t even bother playing the game, they are just mindlessly AFK and queueing into content.

Classic WoW brought the love back to MMOs for me, it made me feel like i’m part of a big open world and honestly changes like RDF will only turn the game more retail and automated.

I hope Blizzard continues to preserve the spirit of Classic by not catering to these types of gamers.

Agreed, the world should be a part of World of Warcraft. It shouldn’t be about teleporting from one place to another in an empty world. Boosting and boosts already did enough damage to the open world in classic giving people no reason to use it.

Exactly, I just find it weird that we play WORLD of Wacraft but people would rather turn into LOBBY of Wacraft and just AFK all day.

Hopefully Blizzard continues this crusade against AFK-type gameplay so we can have a true MMO experience.

I AFK the most when I am on flight paths. FLIGHT PATHS are killing this game!

Flying killed the open world. The only way to make the world alive again is to get rid of flying.

You can only say this because you play on a mega server. I play on what Blizzard considers “Medium” and the open world is dead and you can’t find groups for any content below level 65. People who want RDF (especially with any sort of cross-realm functionality) are those who DON’T play on mega servers and can’t find groups after hours of spam.

With all these things ruining WoW, its a wonder you waste your time playing it.

I miss Lemonfront. They had variety to their bait.

I mostly find it hilarious the arguement against RDF is “you have to interact with the world” where RDF specifically allows you to hit a button to queue…

AND PLAY THE GAME WHILE YOU WAIT.

Without RDF, you are forced to stare at a UI screen, even if you are making your own game until the group fills. You cant do a single thing while waiting because you have to keep an eye on the board and the group.

Yall are completely backwards its hilarious.

Consider not generalizing here. Lots of people love retail and actually like playing the game. The type of folks you’re talking about aren’t a retail thing, they’re just a type of gamer thing.

It’s worth noting that Classic Era exists, and will continue to exist for the foreseeable future. I’m glad for the changes they’re making in WotLK to bring the experience more in line with what Blizzard’s vision for World of Warcraft are, but I don’t think it’s long-term sustainable. I’m looking forward to touring those raids again, but I think my Classic journey will end after WotLK.

I’m ok with this, but I don’t know if I want my Classic experience itself to be over. So once WotLK is done (or I’ve gotten what I want from it, whichever comes first), I can see myself chilling in Classic Era after that.

How do these threads keep getting de-flagged lol

The forums are presumably not actually moderated.

Just like the game.

I agree.

They probably want Azeroth flying too.

Picture just clicking anywhere on the map and it auto teleporting you there.

It makes it a fundamentally different game

Its weird that this individual replies to themselves, which you can clearly see based on how they structure their sentences and use of certain words etc… I somewhat pitty them a little. Life must be so depressing they’ve got to sit on these forums and converse with their self to spark discourse.

Wow, this sounds horrible, have you considered taking yourself and your other whiny alt named “LFG” and just canceling your accounts so you don’t have to be exposed to such horrible people? WotLK brought RDF to the game, if you don’t like it, why not just stay on the TBC servers? You want to convert “Classic WoW” into what you want it to be, the rest of us want it to be what it was… WotLK, all the good and “bad” that came with it.

Did you really need to post this again on your 4th alt

Just for the record, I have been playing since Vanilla. Have friends I met during that period who I still talk to and hang out with today. I’ve played every expansion and WOTLK was my favorite period in the game.

LFD was an incredibly useful tool for alt leveling. WoW enjoyed its highest subscriber count in the game’s history during that same period. Easy access to alts allowed players to continue to engage with each other and the world. With more alts, we had more options for our guild raids and a reason to spend more time in-game outside of raid hours.

This facade of “muh community” is being used as an argument by people who either:

a) Want to continue to gatekeep heroic dungeons, which spoiler alert: they will still lose their impact in WOTLK and beyond, so soak it up while you can.

and/or

b) They want to cling to their overblown sense of achievement given to themselves simply because they have more time to play the game than other folks. Take that away, and suddenly, it’s a lot more about being able to play the game well not just who can show up.

I continue to be amazed at the lack of intervention by the mods. But hey, if he wants to keep RFD at the top of this forum, then so be it. I appreciate him helping us stay visible.
