The Addon War Failed

lets just admit it and move back to what it was before at this point

like i was completely on board for limiting the combat applications of addons but you have RWF raiders just blatantly using their own in-house coded addons instead of weakauras, and now details is a hollow shell of its former self because you guys decided to build a blizzard-coded DPS tracker that never properly resets, has constant issues, and doesn’t even track everything it’s intended to track.

just give up and let us go back to these wannabe world firsters using their special weakauras, cause really they may as well at this point, and then i’d get full functionality back out of details.

thank you for your attention to this matter.™

I really dont care about the addons for the most part

Ive never used anything beyond baggon/DBM/meters.

But i do think they made progress this xpac with asking addons not necessary to play the game. It not perfect but def progress and I do think

Not needing addons for a game is a good thing

I dont think making them illegal is the awnser though aswell tbf

This wasn’t progress. It was a stumble backward.

UI is worse than ever because now there’s no way to fix shortcomings. Improvements are EXTREMELY slow in coming, too. A few PRD fixes coming next patch, that’s all. Not a peep on buff/debuff filtering. Nameplates are still a jumbled mess. Private auras refuse to work properly with dispel indicators. Still abilities missing from the CDM, just noticed Darkness isn’t there for Havoc, but Vengeanc can track it for some stupid oversight reason.

It always comes down to yalls epeen meters.

how exactly do you expect me to improve as a player if i can’t track what i’m doing wrong?

how am i to track what i’m doing wrong without Details and WC logs?

sounds like you’re the elitist here trying to keep me down, actually.

Let’s take a step back and understand what happened.

Blizzard kept telling us they had to make severely complex fights because the existence of Weak Auras.

Players on the other hand used Weak Auras to minimize the complexity that was added to encounters and most of them would be nearly impossible without weak auras.

Blizzard then made changes that made impossible to work with weak auras, and told us that they would be finally able to design encounters that don’t require addons as such to be defeated.

Then we see the RWF and we see 2 encounters basically that without such addons it would be impossible (or nearly impossible).

  1. Lightblinded Vanguard
  2. Midnight Falls

So, I really want to understand: are you blaming the RWF guilds who introduced such techs (that are available now to everyone through Northern sky) or Blizzard for lying through the teeth to us?

what in the strawman LOL

you don’t even deserve a response

I don’t understand the reasoning behind blaming guilds for using addons, which are basically doing everything which is allowed by Blizzard.

Care to elaborate?

the overdramatized, attention-seeking nature of the entire race to world first puts this conversation at the forefront of the playerbase’s collective consciousness. it shines a gigantic spotlight on the initial problem, then it gives us the solution of “lol just use addons anyway.”

I would encourage you to look up the definition of a strawman and then appreciate that I pointed out that this is what people will assume, and not something you actually said.

Please stop using chatGPT and please start actually reading what other people are writing. If your complaint was that the replacement tool for DPS meters is buggy and doesn’t work, that’s what you’d be writing about. You wouldn’t write a short essay about how you’re confident that the add-on walk back has failed and that we must return to the way things used to be. You’d be asking Blizzard to fix their DPS meter. You’d be doing the one thing that could objectively reach that goal, and you’d submit bug reports.

Instead you’re here whining that your old mods were retired. Which someone could, reasonably, assume is your actual complaint and not that the replacement DPS meter is buggy to the point of unusable.

Yet you did respond to me.

Imagine not knowing your base to the point that you will remove addons and then give THIS community a MEMORY GAME puzzle.

Ya know what? It does not take a bug report for them to realize such things like its not EVER, for ANYONE reporting the same as the logs do. This is known since prepatch. It does not take a bug report for them to realize the meter is not even in the correct Edit Mode boundary.

your scathing commentary is truly piercing my cold, dead heart

what a brave and visionary commenter you are

the king, some might assume, of General Discussion™

My UI is mostly stable now, but still feels janky. It was not fun being a healer at first though and still doesn’t feel that great.

I’m still far more unhappy with the pruning, the addon “war” was well intending, but ill-conceived and poorly implemented. The pruning was just jarring and lazy.
