Isn’t that basically every wow lore discussion these days? Someone arguing adamantly how they’re right about how dumb the story is while refusing to read even a single line for the last 10 yrs and wondering why it makes no sense.
Usually.
“Why did this happen, this makes no sense.”
“Well they explained in this quest that…”
“Oh I don’t read quest text, why would I bother, WoW sux lololol”
repeat Xinfinity
To be fair, the end to the trend of putting lore events into paperback would have primarily solved many (not all!) issues that people have with the story.
It’s a silly choice on Blizzard’s part and I think it’s done a lot of damage.
There were a few interesting characters in SL, but I’m not sure there’d be a good reason for them to travel to Azeroth. I could see future stories/quests that have us travel back to SL and meet with them, like the Lordaeron quest had us seek out Marileth for help with the blight.
Except WoD was mentioned in BfA and depending on when the next light based expansion is will probably have a role.
Also, with Anduin and Sylvanas likely showing up again it will mean we will get updates on the Shadowlands.
WoD was barely mentioned as an aside for the Maghar allied race quest which also retroactively ruined the only good character left standing post-WoD (Yrel). WoD also finds itself in the “non-canon” RP storyline 90% of the time because it too is a stupid offshoot of the mainline game contained to its own timeline, just like Systemlands.
Shh don’t confront them with reality, they’re busy “pretending”.
“Nooooo! You have to play with the new canon! You can’t pick and choose! It happened, it happened, you have to accept that!”
“No.”
Shadowlands is not real, what are you talking about?
It’s canon for my characters, moreso than BfA.
My character’s whole shtick this expansion was my guy being so livid about the scourge invasion that he came out of retirement/reserve status and heads to northrend with a couple people in town so he can have a reckoning with the one responsible for putting his friends and family in danger and forcing them to relive trauma. A reckoning of the foot to groin style.
He arrived just in time to hear that the Jailer was responsible and opted to go with his brother and brothers in law (who are ebon blade) and take his spouse (arguably the grumpiest priest in Azeroth) and head of security (a very annoyed Farstrider) with him.
And my guy has written comedic letters home describing the people and places. He has such colorful descriptions as, “pretty birds” for Kyrian, “orcish and forsaken love children”(Maldraxxi), “moth femboys… And goat people” (night fae), and bondage vampires (Venthyr).
Now that he’s gone with a group of heroes to Sanctum of the First Ones, and helped the heroes on a mission to vanquish the jailer even if he didn’t take part in the final fight (I got AotC), he got to kick the Jailer’s cold deactivated robot body in the groin (probably hurt his own foot) he’s back home and in his secluded family hideaway being retired, drinking a tropical drink with a tiny paper umbrella in it, and sunbathing on a beach where he’ll probably stay until something else threatens home and family.
Narrative wise, I don’t think Zan will give a single crap about the dragonflight narrative. Where were the dragons after he worked with a group that helped in Cataclysm? Did they help heal the dead scar in his homeland? No. So as far as he’s concerned the dragonflights can go pound sand.
Except for the fact as an Allied race they are a constant reminder they are from WoD and not Outlands. Especially considering their leader is potentially a female Thrall variant.
Right now we dont know why Yrel did what she did and that central mystery means she might not end up with the Villain bat. Heck, her Heroes of the Storm/Hearthstone apperance makes it quite clear she is in the Lawful good archetype.
“I disagree with your opinion and don’t like it so therefore it is wrong and doesn’t matter”
Honestly, I’ll take Danuser content over nearly 20 year-old content any day of the week.
The fact that you’re attacking everyone who disagrees with you and calling them names says a LOT about your character, and idgaf whether you care or not. You need to get better at socializing.
I’d say the same about Kleia, but they have to be sidelined.
It just needs to happen.
To bring this back to the classical works that doth inspired WoW
The light isn’t a depiction of evil. It’s a depiction of law. One that has, on occasion, been depicted being taken to corrupt extremes.
The whole light thing was among some things in thise xpansion that was told very well.
We’ve seen characters and factions use the power of the light for sketchy and sometimes flat out evil things. We’ve also seen the power of the void used in the same manner with good deeds even before legion concerning both.
This pretty much solidified that the light and void doesn’t discriminate as long as those using its power never stray away from their belief in it.
OP,
I agree, I really enjoyed the Revendreth zone and especially Glenn Close. It was a bummer that they never did more with that character. I am betting she is just shaking her head at the rest of the dumpster fire that is SL.
Revendreth is honestly quite a unique zone from my perspective, I thought they were attempting to make Blood Death Knights canon by giving them their own culture. Nope! A Blood Death Knight attempting to distinguish themself from an Arms Warrior destroys the World of Warcraft world building itself.
If Blood Death Knights and Arms Warriors were Nintendo Characters Warriors would be Bowser while Blood Death Knight become Zavok.

When it comes to Class Fantasy and Lore a bone chewing loincloth wearing Blood Death Knight cannot hold a candle to Final Fantasy 14’s Dark Knight.
Lets be real though.
The warriors of light in terms of power could solo the entire WarCraft universe, tbf ![]()
