Since this was found the first time months ago as a reward we could get from this awful pre-patch event it is something I have wanted. On my first account I missed the Haunting Momento and thought great, I can get another one now.
I forgot about it until the event started, but than once it started I was happy again, for like 5 minutes. Once I realised how to get it I realised I may never have one. Here I was thinking it would be a reward, do your dailies, do your WQ’s, get some currency and buy it and possibly make it BoP so those who want it can get it for its intended purpose and those who just want to make money don’t simply place these things on the AH for 10 million gold.
But no, Blizzard being Blizzard make it a rare as hens teeth drop rate so people who actually want one may never actually see one. Yesterday I spent some 12 hours farming rares and nothing, one guy I seen said they destroyed theirs because they didn’t even know what it was, others are like “Yeh I got 3 of them, I am going to wait until later and sell them for a high price”.
I am even multi boxing to get one. Thanks Blizzard.
I’m not seeing why you think that selling it is somehow not an intended option for players. It’s a rare doodad that serves no functional purpose. That’s all. Hanging onto them to sell later is just as valid as grabbing one for nostalgia’s sake.
Maybe many didn’t get it, but at least it was easier to farm for than this, camping a rare and going AFK for 15 minutes is not exactly how I thought this event would have panned out.
It’s a little trinket that lets you say you were here for the prepatch. The Haunted Memento (from the Wrath event) does occasionally summon a ghost for a bit so I’d imagine it’ll do something similar.
I am feeling this, collected about 3500 scourge stones so far with no luck from the rares. Major bummer, but i still have 1 week and 3 days before that ship sails.
When I have free time I fly from boss to boss, all day, doing chores etc. in the 20 minutes between kills. I also work, so that’s taken some time away, but since the event began I’ve done about 20 hours of this Boss Farming, and have had two Keepsakes drop.
It’s all I’m farming for! I’ve bought the pet and am gearing Alts, but as soon as an Alt is geared I log on the next and keep trying. I send the Keepsakes I get to other Alts, because they are Unique.
In the end I hope to have about ten for all my Main Alts, and a few to put away for selling in years to come. I’m not expecting this to happen, but I’m hoping!
Good luck! Try and not be discouraged, just do the Rares and leave your computer mid fight so it doesn’t get boring.
The original Haunted Momento dropped from EVERYTHING and literally everyone had at least one!! The reason they’re not more common now is (A) they’re on players who have stopped playing, or (B) before the “throw” use on them was removed, people threw them to other players who had no bag space and the momentos went POOF. I still have multiple of them, I’m pretty sure.
The drop rate on the new one needs to be MUCH higher. This should be a participation prize. It should not some uber-rare thing no one will ever wind up seeing except, as the OP said, on the AH for millions of gold. Like the bag, these are things that should never have been given such low drop rates.
If Blizzard is worried people will come out, get one momento and go home, then maybe what needs to be worked on is the level of fun in the event itself.
This is exactly what I was thinking it would end up being after first hearing about it months ago, because this and the Haunted Momento are the only 2 items in the game that do what they do and once the event is over, gone.
The transmog may be recoloured, but who is going to notice, especially since they are just recolours of old Wrath items, the mount can be obtained from the instance, so even that doesn’t count.
At least last event for BFA we got a new mount that is gone, a token to say you were there and done the event, there is nothing this time around except the momento, and even than if someone has it they could have just brought it from the AH and never actually took part in the event.
