The “removal,” of server reputation mattering

So this obviously happened long ago, and WoW isn’t dead… but is the additions of cross realm LFG one of the biggest things that hurt wow?

It used to be if you were a habitual quitter or crybaby you would be known of it and have a tough time finding groups. Now with LFG you can literally quit on your team and no one even knows about it except those 4 cross realm strangers who can’t really do Jack about it.

I feel like people had to be more polite, patient, and try harder when your actions in a daily dungeon actually impacting your WoW future as well.

Ahh I remember when I tried playing classic and ended up sitting outside Ragefire Chasm for an hour asking people in trade and in guild for help so I could actually get a group together. Only reason I got into that dungeon is because a lvl 60 pitied me enough to carry me through it.

I don’t want to relive that in retail.

LFG isn’t perfect. Like everything else it has its pros and cons.

But yeah, I remember the old days of hanging out in Ironforge/Orgrimmar spamming trade chat trying to get groups together… not fun. Given the lower number of players now, getting PuGs together that way would be truly awful.

So overall LFG is a good thing.

No, I don’t believe so and the fact that people were more polite…I think that was a myth too. I don’t remember that. In fact one of the first reasons I left after this game initially came out was because a lot more people had bad attitudes than the other game I was playing that came out at the same time.

The irritating part for me nowadays isn’t LFG or anything like that it is more where people feel that every dungeon is Mythic+ and speed pulls even before a healer zones in or tries it in Timewalking without the understanding that their abilities have diminished.

I can’t really support my stance, but it’s my opinion that random queues killed the community far harder and faster than the tool itself. If everything was premade, it wouldn’t have gotten quite so bad.

If I can solo a dungeon I probably won’t wait for a healer, but the number of people that are just impatient and stupid is mind-boggling.

“Server reputation” caused harassment in Classic. I’m glad it’s gone.

Yea. They kinda dismantled the community with the addition of cross realms.

The server community was one of the biggest reasons I enjoyed this game. The only reason why I still even play is because I still play with people from my old vanilla server but if they were to ever quit I would be gone the next day.

server community is dumb

i seen people get gas lighted and locked out of content
they reroll mains and was harassed on new char and noone would group with them

locking people out of the game because you dont agree with them is what you want back

i couldnt even stand up for person being bullied or i would be isolated too lmao
i seen that happen also

Players are just anti-social these days, it’s not the game so much.

False. Even the smallest servers were too populated for this to be a thing. For every person who knew about the problematic player, there were hundreds more who didn’t know their reputation or simply didn’t care. You and your circle of acquaintances may have shunned that player, but the group of you were a tiny drop in the ocean of server population that didn’t mean anything in the grand scheme of things.

I’m curious as to where this idea that pre-LFD Warcraft was some golden age of community behavior came from. It was just as toxic and cliquey as it is today and the idea of some kind of social accountability needs to die because it never existed in the way you people claim.

Server Rep was a great thing that made communities actual communities. I personally think the cross realm LFG ruined that part of the servers. Too many fond memories of interacting with people from both factions and knowing them.

“Server reputation” was never as big of a deal as people want to remember.

They most certainly did not. There were guilds filled with trolls who went out of their way to ruin pugs. They were able to do so on a continual basis due to their class or because they had an item necessary for certain dungeons (the key for ubrs).

The so called blacklist became even more useless when rogues began crying ninja every time a druid dared to roll against them.

I’ve said before, I think that, given the current state of the game and subscriber numbers, cross-realm LFG is a good (but imperfect) thing for the game.

That being said, I do miss the days when each server was its own community. The first guild I was in, started when I grouped up with a few folks I met while questing in Arathi Highlands back during Vanilla. Those were good times and good friendships that lasted for years.

These guilds, and people, quickly became known to everyone, and were easily avoidable. And finding UBRS keys wasn’t that difficult.

Guilds were, and still are, the find the games true community. Barrens chat gained its reputation for a reason. The original lfg channel was closed down because of the trolls/jerks.

The game had just as many jerks and trolls back in classic as we have today.

Not when those players were tanks and healers. Roles that were just as rare to find as today. After 1+ hrs of spamming lf tank and healer, pugs tended to go with whomever was available. The ubrs key wasn’t hard but took luck and a lot of grinding to get. Which is why it was rare to find someone outside of a guild with one.
