Well, while I’ve got you all here, there was something I had on my mind that I’m curious about. How do you all feel about the conversations that typically take place on trade chat, general chat, and other places like raid chat and so forth? Do you think they get away with too much? Breaking too many rules? Going too far?
I was going to ask trade chat what they thought about those on the forums, but I kind of like this perspective better.
Is there really any disconnect or are we all just the same general type of people? Do people on your server talk about the same basic stuff that people on the forums talk about, or do you think this is more moderated?
Yes, I’ve noticed this seems to be the case for many people here, but I never see them explain why.
The only time I absolutely could not stand trade chat before now, is when the boosters would get to spamming, but now that they have their own containment channel, I get to leave it and stay in trade.
I will say, it’s probably just because we’re in a lull, waiting for DF, but trade is pretty dead nowadays. Though, I have gotten into some decent discussions in the past, which I feel isn’t totally different than here on the forums. I guess that’s what’s got me so curious.
I’ve been using an addon called Badboy for years. In it I’ve developed a very extensive list of stuff that gets blocked. By and large /1 /2 is generally a cesspool where people (much like yourself) feel the need to get their hurr durr on. So I block it… and if you get really annoying I add you to my #blocked list addon which ensures you’re blocked on all of my toons.
I see people selling stuff all the time! I spend a lot of time in cities, running around bored, and every 20ish minutes someone links a heroic/mythic piece they’re selling. Strangely, almost all of them are linked in Spanish. I still haven’t quite figured that one out yet.
trolls, mostly. I hate trolls, and generally think that people who get their kicks from upsetting strangers on the internet are kind of pathetic. That and the political fighting. I don’t need some MAGA dude raging, or some Liberal dude raging back. I can watch the news pundits if I want that.
Also, I’m not going to engage with anyone publicly in-game - I’m on my main usually, and GM of my guild so bickering in trade chat isn’t the face I want to be putting up in front of everyone…so why bother reading any of it.
I leave general in raid because it’s just an unnecessary distraction from what I need to be paying attention to.
yep. I popped in the other day for something, then looked at the services channel, and even that was dead (at the time I looked, at least)
This is a good point. I would probably interact far less with trade/general/etc. if I was in an active guild. I find myself so bored/lonely that I usually will talk to just about anyone, because, well, I play solo a lot and it’s very boring/lonely. I do miss being a part of a community. It felt like a good idea to make a bank guild, but now I’m starting to regret it.
Rude would have been to tell you that the hurr durr activities in /1 /2 directly resulted in Blizzard taking the stance that they are now and suspending people for the smallest of infractions… and that I hope those people enjoy their vacations… It is because of those hurr durr people that we can’t have nice things.
The forum is more moderated… if only barely… Trade chat on my server is full of trolls and bigots… just like the Forums… but they are less filtered because they know their messages will vanish eventually and someone who might report them is less likely to see the message.
Might I ask what addon does that? Because I would LOVE to get my hands on it…
