That's it. I refused to tank anymore!

I thought tanking was starting to become quite good with the groups I was recieving, until it all started today with DPS pulling ahead, and healers just DPS’ing instead of healing (No, not talking about Disc Priest here)

Was just doing some dungeons on my DK. Yesterday, all the groups I was in was quite enjoyable to be with. But then comes today, and ugh, it is like people just lost there heads and went crazy.

First group I was in, it was the Underot. Healer went ahead and pulled everything from the entrance upto the first boss, and caused everyone to die. I said to the healer, “next time you do that, and you’ll be tanking them, not me”. Happened again, and before I knew it, I was kicked from the group, and recieved the deserter buff.

So went to quest for a little bit, and as soon as the deserter buff came off, I thought to queue for another dungeon. Sure enough, I get into Atal’Dazar midway after 2 bosses have been down. Sure enough, I didn’t care, I thought I’ll continue. Sure enough, I see why there wasn’t a tank in that group. Had 2 hunters, and just pulling everything that is on those bridges in the middle. And because of that fear, I could only interrupt one. I just purposely left the group after that.

3rd time, same dungeon as the second, but new group, and fresh dungeon, and, just when things couldn’t get worse. Everyone went there own ways in the dungeons, continued to die, and refused to do the dungeon together as a group. It was at this point where I was thinking to myself, what did I do to deserve a day like today.

If people aren’t going to work together in dungeons, and leave the pulling of the mobs to the tanks, then what is the point of them queuing?

Kinda why I quit healing. It’s not fun being blamed for everyone else choosing to stand in fire. +1 op if I had any likes left.

Sounds like a streak of bad luck to me typically most groups work out. Think tanking really helps build patience since it’s a very frustrating role. The only thing I can suggest here is to avoid passive aggression and let your intentions be known that you can’t pull a platoon at the start of the dungeon

Random Heroics are always a waste of time for this exact reason. Nobody is in there to enjoy the dungeon; they’re in there to smash it out as quickly as possible and walk away with their daily reward. As a consequence, you’re invariably stuck with impatient, reckless players who rarely take notice of the gear the others in the group have.

I find it frustrating at times playing both Tank and Healer, for example:

As a tank, having a DPS chain pull 20+ mobs and giving the Healer a heart attack having to burn through mana to heal me up. Then before said healer even has time to mana up, pull another 20+ mobs.

As a Healer watching a tank go bonkers and die from pulling 20+ mobs then quitting when he dies and claims I’m crap for not healing him through mobs that continually stun, apply damage debuffs, silence casters/healers and/or fear everyone.

The big problem is, I suck as DPS, so end up as either a Tank or Healer :frowning:

I usually test the waters with a “Hey, how is everyone tonight?”

Those who don’t respond, usually have me suspect they won’t be good in the team.

And as a Tank, we are a much requested commodity. We can afford to be the hot girls who know everyone wants us, and find our own groups.

My last group actually gave me a small panic attack they were so aggressive and rude, even with me warning them I was learning to tank. I won’t tank for anyone in this game ever again.

Yeah, I feel for ya. As an expansion ages, and with all the handout gear this sort of thing happens and gets worse.

Don’t give up. If you want to learn hwo to tank, I suggest doing it with friends, a guild or a nice premade group. I’m sure you can have a lot of fun with it, don’t let a few rude people get you down.

He has a very good point. Tanking during LFG really only teaches you how to tank in the worst possible situations.

Honestly, I kinda wish someone would form an “Academy Community”, dedicated at teaching the game, honing skill and basic respect among all.

We shouldn’t wait for Classic to bring back a sense of community to WoW.

Groups do seem to be getting worse, no one seems to respect the holy trinity. After watching the most recent Q&A , I suspect the lead designer doesn’t either.

That being said, I just do my best to take control of whatever mobs these bad players pull. Usually it turns out just fine (i’m quite familiar with the bridge you are talking about and it can get out of hand quickly).

Easiest solution would be to make mobs hit dps roles harder - 1 shot them regularly, they’ll quickly learn their place. Unfortunately the direction the game has taken - everyone has a self heal, everyone can get beat on, everyone thinks they’re a tank because they can survive so well in solo content.

The good news is, I have a good group more often than not, it’s just that those occasional bad groups really stand out.

I see we both got the same impression from that Q&A…

It is why I often do m+ in feral spec (or run my hunter), as tanking can be a pain outside of my regular friends group.
For me, I main a BrM monk and so I know that every few seconds is my big AoE threat hit (and yes I use the statue), so when the helpful healer pulls ahead for me, rather than speeding up the run it just makes me chasing threat… which makes it much worse…
I much prefer Guardian tanking but most people are like guardian is bad herr derr and so sometimes I just dont get the invites…
It is also why I tend to run new raids first on my hunter before pugging as a tank, just so I know whats what!

OP NO !!! You will keep tanking and deal with what DPS and Healer say.

As The old saying goes “The Tank is always wrong and the healer and DPS right.”

Never understood that myself. Don’t quit tanking, though, especially if you enjoy it. Try running with friends only, or friends of friends.

I find this to be true. Most groups are fine and most people respect the tank. Every time you queue up though you always have a possibility for that kind of group.

If it happens try your best to carry the group, and if you can’t or people get nasty, saying anything rarely helps the situation. Just leave and try again later.

I hope you have better luck next time OP.

You should maybe try tanking quicker … or better

OP The whole thing was your fault!!! As the Tank your suppose to keep up with group and do all the pulls…

And keep healer and DPS alive… Even if their annoying you have to push through and deal with it…

Tanks have the most responsbility in the group its your job to lead so if you fail that of course your group will die…

But your the one who is the key to a group staying alive!!! And now you want to give up ???

Your throwing in the towel so soon ??? Most Tanks these days have very little skin.

You need to keep Tanking and deal with it. If you dont you will never truely be happy in this game.

i find it smoothly for me, i even let the tank pull and scold the dps that causes issues.

No, just no. Dungeons are a team effort. The tank has no obligation to babysit people that have no idea what that means. If this is your attitude, stay out of group content.
