That one annoying online "friend"

So I need some advice

I have group of friends I play with in discord and we’ve known each other for years…like almost 15 years for one of them actually. Recently one of them brought in a guy that he met playing Apex Legends and that guy, lets call him ‘Bob’, is extremely annoying. He’s kind of a jerk when we play any games with him but it’s nothing too terrible. The problem is he has no sense of humor, he’s really loud, and half the time we can’t even hear him cuz he has a $10 mic.

It’s gotten to the point where none of us, and there are about 6-7 of us, that really don’t want to talk to him. Me and another buddy of mine instantly mute him when he comes in so he’s talking but we’re not hearing or responding. We want to kick him from the discord but at the same time feel bad because he hasn’t really done anything heinous to warrant that but at the same time we all just find him extremely annoying.

any ideas on how to handle this?

Talk to him? Communicate your issues? Tell him what is up.

Either that or just remove him and feel bad about it.
There is no inbetween.

Does the person who originally invited him still want him there? I would talk to them first and see what he thinks. Might be best if he drops the news but reassures him that although the group doesn’t want him they can still be friends.

Otherwise, I don’t think there’s any way to avoid hurt feelings in this situation. Gonna have to do it as polite as possible. “Hey man. I’m sorry but we don’t really vibe. I hope you can find people that are a better fit for you. Good luck and wishing you the best.”

At least provides some closure rather than just kicking/ghosting.

no…he regretted it as soon as he invited him

yea I like this approach…it’s going to be awkward but honestly if I were him and multiple people felt that way I’d would just say thx for bringing it to my attention I’ll work on it.

You’re doing him no favors by pretending to like him when really you dislike him, want him out of the friend group, and probably trash talk him a lot behind his back.
Let him make actual friends and spend time with people that like him back. He’s not a lost dog nor a charity case, he’ll be ok.

Kick them and if your other friend has an issue with it tell him he can go also.

At first i thought you were describing me. Then you said he has no humour. I also don’t have friends.

Some people are just like that. Probably does not even realize that he is like that. Talk to him, maybe he is a really decent guy and has other issues that he is dealing with.

(Waits for thread posted by Bob about how his friends ghosted him and banned him from the discord)

This won’t end well no matter what….

actually no we don’t trash talk him at all…in fact we all feel bad that we don’t like him because we’re all pretty chill but it’s illogical to think that one can get along with everyone.

all we talk about is what we should do in this situation because we’re all stumped this hasn’t happened to any of us in the multiple years of making online friends

That is a very solid suggestion

Send them to Siberia

Send him a message on B tag telling him there’s something you need to tell him and he may not like it but you’re not quite sure how to say it then send a link to this thread

The problem will solve itself

that would make for some really funny drama lol

Talk to him or and if it doesn’t get better, kick him.

Sounds like no one really wants him around.

These seem like two problems that are hard to be present at the same time.

I mean if no one wants him in there, remove them. Sometimes it takes awhile to mingle with to find out if you guys are gonna mesh well together.

There’s really no hard feelings about it.

that’s the thing that’s weird

when he’s just talking in disc and not playing games he’s like a mouse…then he’ll play something with us like join our game and then becomes obnoxiously loud. He himself says that his output device is always switching

sounds like his ports are messed up. the input/output for his desktop/laptop could be damaged.(in which case you pretty much need a new motherboard depending on extent of the damage.) or he could also have the noise cancellation option ticked on/off as well in his audio control panel. that would produce nasty sound effects on discord.
