That Alliance Logo

The Alliance used to have a pretty awesome logo. A crest with a sword and thorns overlayed. I’d post a link but we cant post links on the new forums

How did we go from something iconic like that, to this lion that looks like it was ripped off a five year old kid’s lego set?

Any shot at seeing the old logo make a come back, or at least updating the current lion to look more fierce or regal?

It’s always a real kick in the realm pride to see the current logo, especially next to the horde logo.

The Alliance symbol has always been a lion.

You may be thinking of the Lordaeron symbol, which is a country that no longer exists since Arthas killed his father and most of the population

Maybe it is Lordaeron, IDK, but its still the symbol that’s in use today on BG maps and Alliance PvP flags.

You mean the symbol on this page (just above where it says ‘racial traits’? It’s the racial symbol for the humans

If you look on this page

You see the racial symbol for the night elves.

It was never an alliance as a whole symbol, it was symbol for a specific race. In this case, Humans

You couldn’t post them on the old forums either. They’d still be text. Just type `http://www.example.com`. It will post like this: http://www.example.com. People will have to copy/paste just like the did in the old forums.

I wouldn’t even say that’s humans… that’s the Lordaeron crest. Although I do think the Alliance do need a new symbol, seeing as how the Stormwind crest is the symbol and I think Blizzard needs to move away with the humans being in charge of everyone in the Alliance.

Well I’ll be damned. You know it never actually occurred to me that they still use the symbol of lordaeron for the humans! That’s kinda weird considering lordaeron is by rights, now a horde kingdom.

Very true, they do need to step away from humans leading the Alliance, they have done this for the Horde, moving away from Orcs as the leaders, and having first Vol’jin as the leader and then Sylvanas.

I mean, Anduin is an interesting character on his own, given the amount of development he has had over the past several years, but why would older people such as Malfurion and Tyrande take orders from him? He’s barely 17-18 years old… he has nowhere near the experience Varian did.

It was ever since vanilla - back in the day it was pretty much storyline that the humans wanted Lordaeron back so they keep the memory of it alive… granted they did somewhat take part of it back… although now it’s a blighted wasteland… so …

Yes; that is the symbol Alliance have for pvp.

So I guess “No” to using the old symbol, but really, the bravery of the Alliance is due more than this childish cartoon lion we have been saddled with. Refresh warranted!

Well given most PvP is driven by humans vs orcs in the game, the human racial symbol tends to be used more often granted on the other hand, for the Horde, the horde symbol is used given the rest of them are actually more complex.

But the lion has been this way since day 1. So why you think the lion is childish I don’t know. The Alliance has been represented with this forever. It’s just the human racial symbol has also been used prominently. So in effect the alliance flies 2 symbols more often, the one for humans and the one for alliance as a whole… the horde never use the racial symbols on other flags. And just use the generic horde one.

I’ll also point out, lions have been used in regal symbols, flags and coats of arms for hundreds of years - look up the symbolism of lions in coats of arms - as it traditionally means courage.

Aware of the symbolism of the lion. Disappointment is that the artwork is so childishly done that it undermines said symbolism and realm pride.

It has to be something fairly simple for a flag / shield emboss etc otherwise it wouldn’t be recognisable at a distance. Look for comparison at the horde logo, like the lion it’s a simple design, which is designed to be seen and identified.

It’s sort of a “remember the Alamo” deal for the humans of Stormwind.

How is the horde logo any beter? It is like someone traced Gorehowl and put it on some flags.
