Thank you ion, I mean it thanks

I was having a hard time at first this February when my 6 month sub ran out. So I concocted an excuse that I needed to hand off 15+ years of junk from playing to my partner, and I resubbed for for another 30 days.

Now the news comes out about 9.05 and we are warned that there is going to a sort of ‘hard reset’ requiring folks to regrind gear, covenants, conduits, etc etc.

The last 2 days I’ve logged on and off I’m finally done! It is going to be painless because the hook in the game for me has been broken, the idea of progression over years had created a character that I loved almost like a pet.

The breaking apart of expansions and the ruination of crafting broke the psychology of that sense of progression over years. Now it’s back to being merely a video game, and pretty poor one at that.

I’m too old now to do it again so also Thanks to that original team that created wow, I had some very real ‘real life’ break throughs becauase of wow. I went through many phases over the years and the original game structure created a social world where I could teach myself how to get along with all sorts of folks.

In the end the original group I played with ‘Knights of the Dawn’, got taken over with raiding instead of just playing and the original GM got pushed aside. Citrix was good at keeping it light and fun.

A bad loot call caused me to become bitter and I left them, Citrix was gone by then anyway. Then I did the progression guild thing for a couple years with Maelstrom, which at that time was being run by the most fair gm I’ve had the pleasure of playing with, Slatra.

Thanks folks it’s been real considering it’s just a video game.

He’s exhausted by the gear grind and can’t do it again for m+ upgradability.

I’m happy and, paradoxically sad, that the hook finally snapped and set you free.

The hook, for me, has dulled so much over the past 6 years that I may be free soon, too.

As WoW shifts more and more from a RPG to an E-Sport, that hook is nearly gone.

With the ever increasing emphasis on M+, Mythic Raiding and Arena.

Good luck out there my fine sir.

Welcome to the party. It has been enlightening to see that sometimes, the games moves on from you, and not you from the game. I thank Blizzard for giving us classic though and hopefully TBC. That was iteration of the game I loved so much and I know I will get to finally play the way I thoroughly enjoyed.

I mean, they are monetizing running dungeons. There is no low that this company is willing to stoop down to. The game has no real identity anymore. It is all a competitive game now instead of being a game about characters, your character being in a living world. Yeah, there is a story but that story means pretty much nothing anymore. Your character is meaningless. It is a number generator more than ever. All classes are overly bland outside of what blizzard allows to be FOTM, and I do believe they do this on purpose for the monetization of services that requires players to level those FOTM classes quickly.

“We nerfed your character. Now reroll FOTM.” They don’t want people to be attached to their characters or they might resist this.

gracias time to get learning

Agreed. You’re no longer your character. Your character is now a MOBA hero with a pre-written background and personality.

I think this started in WoD when your MOBA hero was unceremoniously dubbed a commander when you don’t seem to call ever enlisting.

It grew in Legion when your MOBA hero claimed a one-of-a-kind legendary weapon.

It continued in BfA when your MOBA hero became the Champion of Azeroth and single-handedly nuked an old god into oblivion.

Recently, your MOBA hero is a Maw Walker.

He’s no longer Krutz the Insane, he’s the Zandalari Paladin MOBA hero.

Another Gnome bites the dust.

See you tomorrow.

but this is the bread and butter of wow… every single new expansion, every single new patch, we are all forced to learn new talents, new spells, new rotations, forced to respec, forced to regear, and the whole nine yards Always been this way since Vanilla and normalized since the first expansion TBC.

They are saying that current mythic+ gear will not be upgradeable when the new valor system is implemented. You will have to regrind all your gear to have pieces that can be upgraded.

Supposedly this is a “technical limitation”. Technical limitations have technical solutions. We’ll see if they stick with that line. I think it’s possible that if enough players give up over this they might decide to fix it.

This isn’t even a new content patch. It’s just tuning, with a hard requirement that everybody with mythic+ gear should have to replace it.

If you want to pretend that’s how it’s always been, every time there’s minor class or system changes everyone is forced to replace all their gear, that’s a you thing. A non-reality based rationalization why players should have to grind all their gear twice in a patch, not once.
