Very bad. Since the beginning of SL, they told us she was working “with” and not “for” the Jailer- and to me, that means she knew that the Jailer might have a hidden agenda. Apparently, she was just stupid the WHOLE TIME and needed ANDUIN to straighten her out!!! GREAT STORY
The Curse of Undeath was never just a skin disease so don’t be equally shocked when cdev reconfirms that for the millionth time.
Like I’ve said a million times before; Sylvanas going from saving women and children to wanting to melt them should have been a dead giveaway that something wasn’t right within her. I’ve been saying this since the old forums; ask Ainhin. He usually would follow up with a “How could Lordearon belong to a completely different/non Lordaeron related being” ;in which I would replay their original souls are still there.
The concept of Sylvanas and the Undead having their souls manipulated and twisted isn’t new information. I’m just glad that cdev didn’t change that.
I dunno, given the whole soul fragmentation thing I think I was a lot closer to the mark when I said that their souls are different than anyone thought. Seems to actually be a pretty big hit to their “people of Lordaeron” narrative if being Forsaken necessarily means that your soul has been transformed to something alien.
I feel like there are a few kinds of undeath transformations. The ones that I’ve talked about a lot are the plague, regular degular necromancy snatch out of the ground, and what happened to Sylvanas and apparently her ilk.
All of them so far have kept a part of their original souls, my argument still stands.
Anyways I’m on cloud nine; basking in what has just transpired. I’m sure cdev will pick the Lordaeron arch back up and I’ll be there waiting and ready with plenty of new ammo : )
Well I’m glad you’re happy, but it’s unfortunate that it required literally everyone else who has been affected by Sylvanas’ actions to be thrown under the bus.
I’m confused why people are stills saying “Sylvanas’ actions” even after witnessing with their own eyeballs that her soul was manipulated. She’s more a victim than some random no named soldier who got his or her “clean death”. To each their own though; I’m not even gonna start to try to figure that logic out.
You just said that even if the soul is fragmented and manipulated it’s “still the same soul.” So why shouldn’t she be culpable for the actions she committed then?
You can’t on one hand claim that soul continuity is sufficient to grant land claims and on the other claim that there’s insufficient soul continuity for someone to be held responsible for their actions.
Perhaps they took the folks who chose the Loyalist side into consideration, as far as numbers. Alliance Characters don’t have a say - nor should they. Perhaps the Horde Players that chose her side were overwhelming.
I had 3 Horde Characters that went through that quest chain, and all 3 were Loyalists. I didn’t even pick Saurfang’s side on an Alt just to see. I could not decide which Alt to burden with that shame. I can not be swayed by a little toy. That is one toy I am proud to not own.
The Alliance won both Warfronts, so they are good.
Its not as confusing or complicated as you may think. Part of the original soul is always there, but with limitations. Whether part of the souls is placed in a shard, or in a jar, the original still exist with a sprinkle of good ole dark magic and necromancy.
I haven’t delved into 9.1 yet but I believe it talks about souls that Frostmourne ate. So there may be a better explanation for Sylvanas and Co.
I’m not confused, I’m pointing out that you’re applying this selectively, as in only to the extent that it absolves Sylvanas of responsibility for her previous actions but not to the extent that it nullifies things like undead land claims.
Actually that’s essentially how undeath was originally portrayed, just less ‘damaged soul’ and more ‘weaker connection to positive emotions’. If anything this reveal at least slightly brings things closer in line to that start then the slow migration to ‘depressed humans’.
Still a crappy story overall, but that at least isn’t the most egregious thing
Not necessarily, we still don’t how this will end. Could end up that Sylvanas willingly submits herself to Revendreth or Ardenweald to make up for her actions with an eternity of service.
The exact kind of ‘no ones explicitly happy’ compromise solution that happens when you have characters with large fanbases and… loathing-bases?
I’m not happy that they had to come up with a deus ex machina explanation to dig her character out of the Teldrassil sized hole that BFA left her in. But Sylvanas has been better written during Shadowlands and I’m hoping that they at least continue to do well with her from here on out even if she exits the story after Shadowlands. That being said they’re really going to have to explain why Sylvanas bought whatever bullcrap Zovaal was selling her. I find it hard to believe that she couldn’t have seen that he was just another villain looking to dominate everyone around him.
