Thank you Blizzard for finally making Arachnophobia mode

Just wanted to say Thank you sooo much Blizzard for finally helping me have a blast playing this game and not worrying about running into those big hairy spiders . I have been playing for over 15 years off and on, and whenever i ran into these spiders ( some reason only the hairy ones bothered me the most) i would be in tears and it took everything in me to kill these evil things lol for quests or from being chased by them. Some times they would freak me out so much ( scared of spiders in real life) i end up having to just not do the quests or be in the areas where the spiders are. But now with this mode i can change them into crabs or something else  thank you again so much

Like a 99.5% chance this is some bait, but in either case…

Ok thanks for sharing

I’m glad for people with this phobia that they added this.

But Dragonflight must have been hellish for people with anatidaephobia.
(Look it up, you’ll find out why.)

I have pretty bad arachnophobia but I can’t imagine playing basically any fantasy game without learning how to deal with it, giant spiders are like the most vanilla “we’re in a fantasy world and I need a lot of things for this player to kill” enemy lol

I even bought the Bloodfang Widow back in Legion and it’s been my primary ground mount ever since, as a kind of exposure therapy. That being said, if you’ve made it this far and still have a paralyzing fear of spiders then I’m glad there’s an option for you.

The itsy bitsy crab-like creature climbed up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the crab-like creature out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
So the itsy bitsy crab-like creature climbed up the spout again.

I’m 100% convinced this was the only reason the mode was added.

At what point do we tell people: IT’S NOT REAL

I find it odd to replace them with crabs… are they not pretty similar in appearance? Genuinely curious if just knowing its not " a spider" is enough?

Everything returns to crab :crab:

Also, we should get a crab Loa now. Although I guess Shadra would be the crab Loa…

Here’s were phobias/irrational fears get interesting.

I cannot stand spiders, if I could avoid them in games I would but sometimes I can’t so I soldier on. However I think scorpions are dope as heck (except whip scorpions, they’re icky) despite them also being arachnids.
Do I want one crawling on me? no, no I do not, however seeing one doesn’t trigger the same response as seeing a spider does.

In general though I dislike most things with more than 4 legs.

When I saw the title of your post I thought arachnophobia mode would turn everything into spiders. I guess I misinterpreted. :upside_down_face:

I saw a thread many years back, like 2016, from a person who genuinely had such a severe fear of spiders that seeing them in game was triggering. The thread was asking if there were any addons that could replace spider models with something else, and that person was harshly belittled as per usual forum conduct. I hope that person still plays and is thankful for this feature - it made me think of them, even this many years later

The only reason it will ever be used.

Fair its odd to me as if you asked me the difference between crabs and spiders physically I would just point out the lack of hair and pinchers and call it a day.

Still im from the outside looking in.

Humans are innately afraid of spiders because of venom. Physically, there isn’t much of a change, but our brains are wired to avoid them because a single bite can cause you to lose a limb if not treated. My friend’s sister nearly lost her whole arm last summer after a brown recluse bite.

I’m not educated on crabs by any means, but I’m almost certain they aren’t venomous.

Some crabs have hairs!

For me its the fangs, body build, movement, eyes, and yes hair too. Rose hair tarantulas basically give you fiber glass splinters when handling as a defense mechanism. Spiteful little guys. Spider faces absolutely terrify me, I had a rough time with Shelob in Return of the King and the spider bit in the hobbit too.

For reference I woke up covered in spiders when I was 7. I’ve made massive progress but I am glad to not have the white noise of my phobia in my head when I play WoW now.

What about evil fluffy bunny phobia? Can we get a setting to turn the bunnies into spiders?

Playing Resident Evil, when the huge spider falls down on you after you enter the room, that is what I call Arachnophobia, I was screaming!

But at WOW, I can not imagine how this can trigger such a response.

I like crabs better than spiders.
