Testing Adding Damage Reduction to PvP

at least i wont get bonked by 3.6k starsurges or 2.2k chimera shots now

DoT classes are going to rake it in this weekend. Their damage is going to change minimally…rot changes almost none with these changes. Locks, SP and boom will be super strong still. Hybrids will also be raised up.

Non-healing dps that rely on straight damage will be screwed…

100% agreed with everything here said better than I could.

Also by nerfing damage it is pyschologically damaging to player’s understanding of their agency in the game. As there isnt an explained lore reason as to why all the sudden their damage is weaker against other players.

Part of how people immerse themselves in the game is that they think on some level they are like the npcs in the game, just more talented, smarter, more dedicated and therefore can go father which makes progress exciting to see what heights someone can get to in this world as it feels real.

If we’re just put on a pedestal from the beginning as heroes(bc all heroes have damage reduction when fighting eachother) then all the good stuff that happens to us feels like a given from plot armor as we didnt earn it and therefore everyone has the experience and its not really ours.

Taking away that core feeling of choose your own adventure in a big ‘real’ world aka agency, which makes it meaningful and exciting. Arbitrarily nerfing player power to pierce the suspensions of disbelief, even if its a gimp of only 10%, as long as its noticable, is bad bc it invokes the slippery slope and we end up in a place where people dont think anything they do matters as whatever they achieve will be taken away with the stroke of a key next week. This demoralization leads to weakening player retention and people drift off to something that respects their time.

Sacrificing fear against undead or people with the mithril insignia or pvp trinket or warriors seems worth. Im not gonna last long enough to get 3 of those out lol.

Make it so the PvP gear has more stamina on it. Make us have to earn it. It can lose abit of offensive stats

they mentioned that its a global PvP damage reduction aura. they just didn’t mention how much of a reduction it is. I’m hoping for below 20% tbh.

they also didn’t mention the stamina buff in BM/BGs and I’m hoping those stay.

Why don’t people complaining about PVP in SoD just go play Retail or Wrath BGs or Arenas?

Why do you have to make changes to this version of the game to make it play/feel more like other versions of the game that already exist?

Personally, I would prefer the diversity of gameplay, and time to get used to playing this version of the game, rather than constant changes that make it feel and/or play more like some people who are complaining loudly say they want it to play.

So are you going to add RBGs or something? PvP is completely dead. People don’t queue anymore. Solo queue algorithm is broken for MONTHS and you obviously still don’t care. I appreciate your efforts but I sure hope this leads to something more substantial that will actually incentivize people to PvP because as of now - all these dads would rather go kill a level 25 mob for an item once a day than set foot inside a BG.

just going to state the obvious, if this rolls out without balancing the core problems with pvp it will straight up ruin the game, you cant add resil when the strongest pvp classes atm are the classes with offheals, Lock especially, one button and they are impossible to kill, it is obvious with the change to ua being buffed 120% that blizz have no idea how pvp works, the change can be good but be assured if you don’t do some serious balancing around it, its going to straight up ruin pvp

30% damage reduction is effectively a 30% reduction in rage gen for warriors. Hopefully at least one of your devs have tried playing a warrior outside of fully buffed raids—because this change will absolutely nuke warriors’ ability to press their buttons in PvP. It’s also going to make demo locks with soul link oppressively overpowered. +30% stam across the board is a much more effective fix.

This method failed in phase 1 and everyone hated it. When you changed the bg buff to +30% stam, everybody liked it and continues to enjoy it. Which one of your knucklehead devs is campaigning for this change over stam?

I swear there’s an inexperienced dev on the sod team with control issues who steamrolls opposing opinions and it’s how we continue to get these shortsighted fixes.

Destro all the way

They need to add retail bgs in sod .Like eots, twin peaks , gilnaes etc . It’s so boring playing the same two maps over and over again . It’s as easy as copy and paste .

Is there anyone that runs battlegrounds once they have maxed their faction rewards? I only run BG’s for rewards… World PVP is done for fun…

Give us more World PVP…

Yeah I do , bgs are a ton of fun.

I still say they should add resistances to gear. It’s the massive magic damage thats cutting past armor thats really killing people.

Or just add res gear, at this point the pvp gear was nice but the 10/15 stam of the emerald and regular pvp gear was just so small it didn’t even do anything to stem the damage.

We’ll see how just a straight damage reduction goes. Personally it’s just the high damage nukes that are the huge problem. No class should be able to hit for above 2k damage in one hit. And we’ve got multiple that can.

anyone else ready to see warriors become actual targetdummies with no rage generation ever?

It’s so funny to me how hapless they are in terms of achieving their goal of “making everyone OP” and not just warriors, in PvE. Yet they’re extremely capable of enhancing shadow priests, rogues and warlocks to the point that there’s no viable counterplay in PvP, without giving them solid Raid DPS.

I honestly feel like it’s all for show. They blatantly nerfed destro locks’ PvE dps in a place that had no effect on how they perform in PvP (lake of fire). By doing this they made locks dogwater in PvE compared to melee this phase, yet for some reason they’re scratching their heads as to why they can’t make other classes compete with warriors in PvE. Meanwhile, Aggrend is asking the community how to address the “infinite feedback loop” of more rage = more damage = more rage (not infinite btw, you cap at 100 rage and then you cap at attack speed and gcd’s).

The way rage works right now is FUN. Warrior’s dps is out of hand because they scale at 2X off strength and they crit harder than every other class—and their design decisions around warrior in SoD were to give them flat %damage bonuses or crit damage.

So I’d expect that with the flat damage % nerf they’re probably thinking that “warriors will be fine look at how much rage they generate on warcraft logs” without thinking about how neutered warriors are outside of raid with the warbringer rune on and no raid buffs or windfury.
