Tested some level 40 builds...hunter rules

A comment at the end of this thread indicates that a mob can have an unspecified sex!

AOE grinding on mages is done in certain spots. it acutally worked well in the real vanilla if you knew what you are doing

it did not work as well on crowded private servers, and looks like that will be true on classic servers too

Not true. There are plenty of very skilled players who play hunter. Also, in raids you dont even use BM, you go MM.

Yeah I would say so. If I understand correctly, frost is the way to go for single target and aoe. I guess the nice thing is, if you find yourself in a good area without competition for mobs you can group em and aoe em down :grinning:

The problem with Hunters is often their reputation more than anything else. Hunters are an accessible class, and it’s not difficult to do enough to get by. However, good hunters will always do significantly more DPS, and they don’t reach into those ranges by “playing ez-mode”.

There are things a truly good hunter will understand, that are actually fairly difficult to keep up with, that make every bit of difference. Stutter step, for example, allows you to auto-shot while moving by stopping just before your auto shot would go off (the timer keeps timing while you’re moving, allowing you to reposition).

Good hunters will also keep track of how that interacts with their autoshot clips, which means no casting your abilities within certain windows to maximize the number of auto shots (“clipping” an autoshot resets the swing timer, meaning if you’re not paying attention you can end up losing a significant portion of your “white damage”).

Even more than that, Hunter pets don’t have AoE avoidance. A truly good hunter will know when to pull their pet out of the fray, and then send them back in. This allows a hunter to still make use of their pet even in situations that a normal hunter would simply lose the pet early on and waste resources resurrecting it (or leaving it by his side).

All of the tools they have make playing a hunter fairly easy, but maximizing their actual impact is rather more difficult than first glance would tell you.

Don’t remember if it was in vanilla or BC, but there used to be a line you could type that would indicate the gender of your pet. I remember doing this with my hunter pets (5, as I recall) and thinking how neat it was that I had both male and female pets.

No, I never peeked into the stable at night to confirm.

Before Burning Crusade launched there was a First to 50 contest where anyone who rolled a new character after the start of the contest and reached 50 before the end of the contest would get into BC beta. The overall winner of the contest was a hunter, who accomplished the feat with just barely over 5 days /played.

Hunters absolutely are the fasted leveling class in Vanilla. However, as other people have pointed out a truly well played hunter wasn’t particularly common. Hunters were generally unwelcome in pickup groups because the huntards outnumbered the skilled players by a significant amount and it was of course impossible to know which type you were playing with until you were already in the dungeon.

I forgot how freakin loud that was! I would play with a bow no matter what in vanilla, because that gun sound was over the top haha.

you missed the subsonic part of the equation. please restructure ur decibels please.

I dont disagree with you that Hunters can be played by low skill players decently.

However, to be really good with one takes a lot of skill and the ability to micro manage. More so than most classes I would wager.

Slime hill (where the ghost shrooms spawn), the troll ruins (any of them), and the coast by the horde village with all the turtles can be pretty dense. Humanoids are best because they typically have clustered spawns and are social (you can aggro multiple by attacking one).

Subsonic .22 with suppressor = no need for hearing protection.

Dude I loved the old loud azz gun sound! Can’t wait until I get one on my orc hunter

Quite an opinion.
Did you ever played a hunter to its full extent?
Every class is pretty easy to play, depending on what you want achieve.

yeah for speed runs its hunter all the way. for normal players its easy to spend a lot of time messing around with pets and what not though.

OP clearly knows that, that’s why he asked “How do you manage to group up enough mobs in one spot to make it worthwhile?”
Did you skip that part?

you do it by being in the right spots.

If anyone not at the front of the leveling pack thinks they will be able to AOE level - they will get a very quick sanity check (especially on pvp server).
Would suggest a frostbite build especially for those on pvp servers.

Same for warlocks

So you need to find the right spot first of all, and then you use rank 1 shadow bolt to pull a grp. Other methods include body pulling and then blinking away.
