Why is only MoonGuard experiencing this lag? It’s unplayable. When I log into Stormrage everything is normal.
Server overload with all the new dracthyr running around, people returning for the anniversary, etc. We’re a much more popular server then Stormrage.
Also Hallow’s End event too.
Blizzard doesn’t shard us the same way they shard non-RP servers. RP would be hindered greatly by sharding, so lag is something we just kind of have to deal with now and again as a side effect of them (rightfully) not sharding us outside of current expansion zones.
I was having a lot of lag and dc issues in timewalking dungeons last night.
The problem is that it’s hindering with people doing quests and the like. While this is a rp server, rp isn’t the only thing that people do. A lot of people play the game for the content. It probably isn’t feasible with the lag and it isn’t something that people should be “dealing” with.
Honestly, people can and should rp all over Azeroth and not just Stormwind. And get more accustomed to rping elsewhere. Not everyone should be in Stormwind.
This is another conversation in and of itself. I will never understand why so many people feel that the capital cities are the only places they can RP. In fact, I am glad to be in a guild that believes in RPing in random places and not having to focus on Stormwind.
Agree to disagree on this one personally! Would much rather have to deal with questing inconveniences than give up the lively atmosphere in Stormwind. Open-world RP is great, but people like having a singular place to go where they know they’ll find oodles of people—not just a handful. Stormwind is that place for MG. I’d like to see perhaps a secondary hub that is an agreed-upon substitute when Stormwind is phased, but that requires a level of community-wide organization that I simply don’t have the power to facilitate!
A workable solution would maybe be to give players an option to switch out of the “busy main phase” manually if they want to, but that would require Blizzard actually caring enough about RPers to implement something like that, so… unlikely
There’s a few spots where the lag is insane, so the horde quest to stinkbomb Stormwind was impossible to complete due to every stinkbomb being “out of range”. Some people are clearly still able to complete it however, so you people aren’t off the hook that easily.
But I pretty much only play in Warmode (HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT) so outside of SW I haven’t really noticed any lag.
Except here’s the thing. A lot of people don’t just rp. A lot of people do content like quests and stuff like that. Having the inconvenience of making it feel like your laptop could crash is not a good thing. Or a computer. You might be fine with it, cool. But other people are not.
When SHL pre patch was going on, a lot of people did go to Dalaran not just a handful. Stormwind is but one place. You have to remember that this is the World of Warcraft not the World of Stormwind. There are other cities where you can have the same kind of rp. You just have to ask a mage or warlock very nicely if you want access to those cities since mages are walking portal rooms. But that usually comes with a please. Otherwise you might find yourself landing in the crater with no slow fall.
Clearly the only solution is to move all Moon Guard RP to the Exodar. ALL of it. Every last scrap in the rotting hull of a crashed spaceship.
Pros:
- No lag because nobody goes there
- Always a new experience as you get lost in a winding hall and die of starvation
- Space Goat puns are back on the menu
Cons:
- It’s a bit hard to understand the locals if you are not fluent in Russian.
As I said, agree to disagree—I don’t deny that a lot of people are willing to sacrifice RP for the sake of playability! And that’s perfectly fine. I’m simply not one of those people. But if you can get folks to all move to a different RP hub, I am absolutely in favor of that, and completely encourage it.
As someone who not only does this but knows others who have recently preferred branching out from the singular boring city, I agree 100%. I’ve watched it provide some very nice character development, making them reluctant to return to the city. It’s making me appreciate those who make an effort to branch out that much more. <3
I don’t know why Blizzard can’t just have event ‘kiosks’ and quest givers at multiple cities around the world. Ironforge, Stormwind, Dornogal.
Give us options to spread out the players a bit.
Thats been my argument since WoD when they started removing equivalent services out of less populated cities, and have only doubled down in adding more exclusively to the main faction capitals.
Put a portal room, transmog vender, embassy, class quest trainers, expansion quest starters, everything in other cities as well. Its not fun taking away, or having to forego, quality of life services just to RP in another spot outside of guilds and big events. Also goes for things that bring folks to cities, like the Thunder Bluff Ampetheater. Move the Legion rogue quest guy out of the way!
Mages are mini portable portal rooms. Transmog vendors are the yak mounts and the ethereal transmogrifier. You just have to ask nicely if someone has those or can make a portal for them. Maybe entice them with gold or cake. Cake works well.
I mean heck I’m a mage and I will willingly port anyone to where they need to go. All I need is a please and a headpat. And maybe some cookies. Sweets in general go a long way.
Which is all fine and good and nice, but systemic problems should not be resolved by personal charity, especially when you may be a very nice mage that will do these things but not everyone is, nor are they available 24/7, 365 times a year, minus server maintenance.
As populated as the world is, you would think there would be more role play across every continent. I will say that the lag has absolutely interrupted my enjoyment of Hallow’s End. I do enjoy Stormwind, but I would definitely enjoy other cities. It’s a shame so many well designed cities and villages are ghost towns as the game progresses.
Do you know what city would be the most populated if we had access to it and all of its former glory? Stratholme. If only.
That’s why asking them if they would be so kind as to open a portal goes a very long way. Common courtesy shouldn’t be dead and there’s no harm in sending someone a whisper and saying “Hey! I hope you’re having a good day. Could you do me a favor and please open a portal to [insert place here]? I’ll give you gold in exchange, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance!”
It’s something that’s missing I guess. But being polite will always do you favors. It’s why I’ve said all you have to do is ask. I won’t do it on command or at a snap. But asking “Would you please open a portal”, why of course I’ll do it. Because I love it when people communicate with each other. Gives me the warm fuzzies.
People probably wouldn’t do it all the time if you don’t just ask them. They’re not going to bite you. Though that would be funny.
