Terenas and the Shadowlands

Do you guys think he might be relevant? He seemed like a powerful spirit all the way back in Wrath, and this is the expansion to shine the spotlight on him.

Not really, no.

More likely to see Arthas again than his daddy.

This, the chance of using and milk Arthas as they did with Illidan is too tempting to let it pass by Blizzard.

Terenas is a spirit, Arthas is definitely in the Maw, Calia is undead…

Yep, sounds like it’s Menethil family reunion time.

Three lies. Da first one been told.

Bound by dat throne? No. Free. Free!

Da next gonna come soon. Maybe dey see dis one.

The boy-king serves at the master’s table. Three lies will he offer you.

Without its master’s command, the restless Scourge will become an even greater threat to this world. Control must be maintained… There must always be… a Lich King.

Terenas would make for a more interesting character than Arthas.

We already know Arthas and his backstory. That horse has been beaten to death.

Terenas however would be able expand on the story and lore of lordaeron.

Terenas must feel a lot of guilt for not raising Arthas properly(despite Arthas making his choices in spite of his upbringing and not because of it). Blizzard might be interesting in resolving Terenas’s guilt in that matter. Most especially since Terenas not raising Arthas properly can be levied at Deathwing’s feet.

How did Deathwing influence Arthas’s upbringing? Terenas made it clear that he only started being proud of Arthas when he became a Paladin and anyone whose read Day of the Dragon knows that he constantly compared Arthas to the illustrious Daval Prestor who was infact Deathwing who mind controlled Terenas into his actions.

Terenas must blame himself for not giving Arthas his support when he was younger and yet strangely enough Arthas made his decisions in Stratholme and Northrend without a thought to Terenas’s rejecting him in his youth besides second guessing himself in his mind which didn’t stop his actions at all despite weakening his use of the Light.

Of course Terenas would not know this nor would the Player Characters so the only peace of mind we can give him to alleviate the guilt is revealing Deathwing’s involvement to him which everyone important alive knows.

We’re not getting Calia Menethil to join the Horde, so she’s probably not joining the Forsaken, either.

My dream at this point is for King Menethil to return and lead the Forsaken like the LOTR’s King of the Dead.

As a Necrolord maybe? Becoming a Necrolord ruling Lordaeron and resolving his guilt over Arthas by learning that his bad parenting was under mind control would be an interesting storyline.

And yes we should have him tell us tales of past Lordaeron Kings just as Ardenweald should tell us tales of past Night Elf rulers on top of the history of the Drust.

I personally think Terenas is at peace, and we won’t meet him in the Shadowlands.

He provided some of the narrative in WotLK, because his soul was trapped by Frostmourne. Even when Arthas was defeated, his only words to his son were in the spirit of ‘this is the way things are’. There was no comment to suggest he felt guilt, shame or anger toward Arthas’ for his actions, he simply delivered the warning that the Scourge should be contained, and then faded out.
