I want to main a tank come TWW, but I have to enjoy the dps spec as well. A lot of doom and gloom on every class right now. How’s DH looking? I have generally enjoyed DH in the past, but have lost interest because of the seemingly easy nature of it. However, I’ve never really sat down and tried to master a class. Thinking maybe DH could really hold my interest if I did that.
I’m going to main havoc in TWW, I’m going felscarred because the reaver talents are more intricate.
As far as playing a tank for viable dps, maybe consider Death Knight? I say that because, unless you don’t mind Aldrachi reaver, you have more opportunities for choice.
If you do stay with DH though I think it’s a good spec to get behind. Good luck!
I think the simplicity is the draw for a lot of havoc players (myself included), but there is a more complicated movement based build with stacking small damage windows for more complexity. Seems like some people enjoy that playstyle too.
I say this as a PVP enjoyer and one who has not played the beta.
I plan to play Fel Scarred Havoc as my main
Ever since the start of DF havoc hasn’t been an easy spec, you have to optimize movement and damage windows and this seems to have gotten even harder in TWW.
DH like DK is a good choice. They have very good lores behind them and a bit easy to get into. They are both a case of easy to play but hard to master.
I might also go DH because ever since they killed off Arthas so badly back in SL, my motivation for DK has been slowly disappearing. Illidan however has a chance to play a pivotal role in the future when he comes back and DH lore actually suits the upcoming themes of the story. Void, Demons and Titans. We are built to hunt these haha.
Kudos to the OP from the “Tank List is up” thread, for providing this link:

VDH ranked better than I thought it would, coming in at #3.
Tier lists are just people’s preference and opinion. Dorki ranks them 3rd. Yoda ranks them 1st. Just play whatever you want and what is fun lol.
With the exception of paladin, all the tanks are close in balance. There is no far and away best like the last 3 seasons with bear in S2 and vdh in S3 and 4. Tier lists in beta and prepatch are so subject to change, you can’t plan anything off them. There WILL 100% be tuning/buffs/nerfs leading up to race for world first and for all we know, prot pally might get buffed to be the best. Literally just play what you like and find fun.
First? Sweet.
The tank you have the most fun on, or that you’re best at, is always what someone should play. That’s the point. If that happens to be vdh then go for it. Tier lists are rubbish and only truly matter to people like Dorki or Yoda or any other person in the top 0.1-1%. For normal people who don’t make WoW their job, what you play actually doesn’t matter.
Does DH have long term playability? Is there enough there to hold interest, try to improve on, and get better?
havoc is A tier pve aNd s tier pvp
I had the same logic lmao
The class is so much fun that I won’t be dissuaded by any type of balancing. Both specs are solid right now. There are some diverse play style options, including simplifying the spec down to its basics. I don’t begrudge anyone who enjoys the movement based talents but I’m not a fan. Most guides suggest taking a couple of them but the tiny dps increase just doesn’t seem worth it to me. I have plenty to do without adding any more complexity to my rotation.
Nothing wrong with an easy tank. In fact some of the easiest to play tanks are actually quite complex in terms of utilizing situational CDs (some m+ affixes require talent adjustments).
My viewpoint on tanking is that I sometimes lose interest in certain tank classes and rediscover my love for another. The only tanks I won’t play are Prot Warrior (I keep trying but get bored quickly) and Bear (Maxed one in Legion and thought I could enjoy the rotation but its too easy).
Prot Pally is probably the most complex I’ve ever played and that happens to be the first tank I ever played. There’s a lot you have control over so you’re not just thinking about aggro, control of the fight, your self sustain + mitigation but the health of your party, can they move freely or will Blessing of Freedom free them from a snare or slow, do they need a BoP because the healer is OOM or focusing on others, etc.
A lot of folks believe that Brewmaster is the hardest tank to learn (with some consideration for Blood DK as a close 2nd). Once you get the hang of how the brews work, its actually easier to wrap my head around. Blood DK is my favorite mid-challenge tank.
