Whether you’re RP’ing a Bronze/Infinite dragon, a mage of temporal magic, a shaman who can see the future, or some…other…temporally-sensitive character, I have to ask…
…what are your RP plans when 1 year passes in lore-time, and we DON’T go raiding Outland? Since we are an RP server, time passes for our characters, and at some point, we will reach late Year 26, when TBC is about to take place.
Will you just handwave it…or will your characters realize that something is seriously WRONG with the timestream?
What we as players know has happened and what the characters experience, even if they’re visionaries, are separate things. In the context of Classic being only Azeroth, why would any character, PC or NPC, have the slightest inkling about going to Draenor? None of the in-game events that originally led to that have happened yet. We’re all still trying to recover from WC3.
I think if people keep it vague enough as far as what they’ve seen, it could be easier to make that transition later on. Like instead of having a vision of the entirety of the Burning Crusade maybe just see flashes of the world, and the different races but RP it without giving your real life context to it if that makes sense.
They should probably already be aware that something is off about the timestream. Characters that were rolled in vanilla that are being rerolled in classic may have the same backstory, but will necessarily be subject to unique experiences. They won’t be taking the same path to level 60, or interacting with the same social environment.
Folks probably should avoid RPing such things in Classic. It was frowned upon in Vanilla, it’s still somewhat frowned upon in Retail. It will likely be the same here. Besides, the point of Classic is that we’re nameless adventurers.
I would be okay with it, so long as BC servers are standalone because I’m fine not progressing past classic, as I despised Burning Crusade as my bottom tier expansion. Warlords after but still. shudder
They might laugh it off at first but I’m sure once I explain that nature of alternate realities and how I came to arrive in theirs, it’ll be too easy to get people to appreciate the impending and severe nature of what’s to come.
As tempting as it is to play someone who can “see the future”, I would hate to deal with a character like this. One of the main reasons I’m playing Classic is because I want nothing to do with the storylines that have come after it. Anyone RPing like their character knows about BC, WoTLK, or anything beyond that is just going to be considered crazy by my characters, and highly avoided. Forget the future; let’s stay in the “present”.
I mean… the only time any expansion has lasted the same time in-universe as it did IRL was for Cataclysm, which apparently lasted two years. Every other expansion has only lasted one year. Some people choose to go by how much IRL time has gone by, some choose to go by the lore (which does tend to result in some characters aging faster than others…).
But yeah… Far be it from me to tell people what they can and can’t play… but I feel like this idea would be horribly butchered… Not yours, Boom. But, just the “i CaN sEe/Am FrOm ThE fUtUrE” idea is… I unno. Honestly that seems like something the Bronzeflight would crack down on.
Best solution for predicting the future based on player knowledge: Don’t.
It’s definitely verging on metagaming/godmoding, and it may drive other RPers away from interacting with you.
(Same thing with RPing a dragon or something else that isn’t regularly playable.)
If you do want to play a character with future vision, I’d definitely err on the side of outlandishness or stories that don’t match up with the expansions.
Everybody just BE COOL AND NOBODY GETS SOOTHSAID. ILL GIVE THIS OOC THROW AWAY JOKE HEADCANNON I SWEAR TRY ME.
EDIT: Boom here. Renamed guy to the boar god of the boar clan after the first one gets tore up in Princess Mononoke. Which means a whole new forums thing for some reason.
GODD*AMN Kieth David is the most underrated actor of all time.
I don’t mind if people want to do the “Dragon in Disguise” thing. As long as they’re not godmoding, it’s a plausible thing in this world. Just don’t be a “I know everything and you can’t hurt me” dragon.
