As the title suggests, the frequency at which Elemental Shaman proc Tempest is way too low. Routinely on heroic bosses I will only get one Tempest cast unless I get lucky with Awakening Storms procs in which case I will get 2. However, Tempest simply doesn’t hit hard enough or contribute enough in other ways to ele shaman damage to justify the rarity of the casts.
While I would loathe returning to the Meatball Spec of DF where Maelstrom was never lacking, could we bump up the maelstrom generation a little bit? A buff to the maelstrom generation on Overloads is probably the best approach as it strengthens Mastery as a stat, which is very thematic for ele, without it simply being a massive buff to baseline shaman gamplay.
Ele shaman dps is perfectly fine as it is, I just want to cast Tempest more.
Throughout the beta, many players have been asking to change Lava Burst to Tempest if a specific talent is picked. The idea was to give Tempest a cooldown and cast time, and make it interact with Lightning Rod so that every time Rod deals damage, there would be a chance to make Tempest instant. But the truth is, during the alpha—when there was time to iterate and make design changes to Hero talents—the devs forgot about the Shaman.
Bro what? Are we talking elemental or enhancement ?
My elemental shaman at 566 Ilvl is getting over 1 mil crits with tempest. I had an AV match last night my tempest crit for 2.2 million damage.
Enhancement, everything enhancement does is a tickle.
Enhancement tempests hit way harder than ele, wtf are you on? Maybe if enhance is hard casting without maelstrom, but thats it. Enhance lightning bolt hits harder too than anything ele can put out(again with maelstrom).
Something is off when a melee class spells are doubling that of a caster.
I mean if our Lighting Bolt were hitting as hard as an Enhance shaman sending a bolt with 10 MSW stacks we’d probably be the best dps in single target considering we’re cast way more lighting bolts. Enhance also has way more damage amps feeding into the spells on top of MSW.
Heroic dungeon bosses are dying in like 30-40 seconds so it kinda makes sense that it you’re not going to get like 5 tempests off. We also have a very low amount of haste as well which is going to have a massive effect on our Maelstrom generation.
I’d agree that in dungeons that Tempest is kinda whatever on solo bosses or on a single target but Tempest + Arc Discharge provides a stupid amount of damage on trash packs so even just being able to get one more Tempest out on every trash pack would be a substantial damage increase because of Arc Discharge let alone its damage on it’s own.
I get the idea and I would personally would like Mastery to have some more value but I doubt the devs would increase the Maelstrom from Overloads since that would in fact be a massive buff for Ele overall regardless of build or hero talent setups. More Maelstrom means increased frequency of Earth Shock, EarthQuake, and Elemental Blast which means more SoP empowered Lava Bursts, Lighting Bolts, and Chain Lighting casts. More spending would also lead to building more stacks of Unlimited Power before fall off, higher uptime on Lighting Rod, and high uptime on the 4-set tier bonus. Increasing Maelstrom from Overloads with how Ele is designed ATM would have too many impacts.
Simplest thing to do to make Tempest feel better on Single Target when taking Arc Discharge in dungeons that they could do right now would be to buff the single target damage portion of Tempest while leaving its cleave damage alone. That would also help Stormbringer in single target Raid fights as well and give us some more priority damage in AoE.
I play enhancement, wolves up after a PW to 10 stack i hit around 5 mil, but i agree. The timer is stupid and having to get 40 stacks to proc it once is very bad feeling. Been looking for ways to make it hit harder as I can’t take anything else to get stacks faster.
